Beim neuesten Exklusiv-Interview von wrestling-infos.de stand uns diesmal die nächste große Nachwuchshoffnung aus Ungarn Rede und Antwort – „The Bull of the Village“, Gulyas Jr. Über seine Karriereziele und seine Beziehung zu Robert Dreissker, lest, seht und hört ihr, wenn ihr möchtet, alles unten folgend in den Tabs. David (wrestling-infos.de): Ich sitze heute hier mit Gulyas Jr., dem „Bull of the Village“. Schön, dass Du hier bist, wie geht es Dir?
Gulyas Jr.: Mir geht es hervorragend. Ich habe gerade meinen Arbeitstag beendet, ich bin ein wenig müde. Sollte das Verstehen etwas mehr Zeit in Anspruch nehmen, tut es mir leid. Es waren knappe neun Stunden auf der Arbeit.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Das bekommen wir schon hin, gar kein Problem. Ich beginne auch mit einer ganz normalen Frage: Wie bist Du überhaupt zum Wrestling gekommen? Was war Deine erste Erfahrung?
Gulyas Jr.: Ich saß zu Hause und spielte mit der Fernbedienung des Fernsehers. Plötzlich kam ich auf einen Kanal, auf dem Pro Wrestling lief. Es war die erste Show, die ich gesehen habe, ich glaube, es war der „Royal Rumble“ 2011. Ich komme aus einer kleinen Stadt auf dem Land. Als wir nach Budapest gezogen sind, hatte ich mehr Möglichkeiten. Früher habe ich Fußball gespielt, aber in Budapest gibt es zahlreiche Proficlubs, bei denen ich nicht genommen wurde. Einer meiner Klassenkameraden in der Grundschule fragte mich schließlich, ob ich mit zu ihm nach Hause kommen möchte, um WWE-Shows anzusehen. Er hat damals alle Weeklys aufgenommen. Nach einer Weile erwähnte er, dass Pro-Wrestling jetzt auch in Ungarn angesagt ist. Damals war HCW die einzige Liga in Ungarn. Ich wollte es mir ansehen, aber die Shows waren damals nicht auf Abruf verfügbar. Also gingen wir zu einer Live-Show. Ich war vier Stunden dort, bevor die Türen geöffnet wurden. Das war eine dumme Idee. Ich hätte immer noch Plätze in der ersten Reihe bekommen, wenn ich etwas später dort gewesen wäre. Ich wurde ein großer HCW-Fan und ging regelmäßig dorthin. 2014 erwähnte derselbe Mitschüler, dass es einen HCW Dojo gibt. Einen Monat später fragte mich mein Stiefvater, warum ich nicht dorthin gehen würde, und ich sagte ihm, dass ich Angst habe. Er tat so, als würden wir einkaufen gehen, aber er brachte mich direkt zum Dojo und meine Reise begann.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Du hast darüber gesprochen, Du kommst vom Land. Kommt daher Dein Spitzname „Bull of the Village“? Wie bist Du darauf gekommen, wie kamst Du auf die Idee?
Gulyas Jr.: Der Spitzname ging auf meine Rechnung. Das Gimmick wurde allerdings nicht von mir erfunden. Vor Tapings sagten sie mir, dass sie mich und meinen „Bruder“ als Tag-Team, die Gulyas Brothers, einsetzen wollten. Wir sagten ihm, dass wir uns kaum kennen. Am Tag des Aufnehmens hatten wir noch kein Gimmick. Makai Renátó wollte, dass wir das Countryman-Gimmick ausprobieren, also haben wir es einfach versucht. Das erste Match war schrecklich, ich wusste nicht, was ich tun sollte, ich war völlig verloren. Es war hart. Beim zweiten Match hatte ich etwas Zeit, um mit meinem Bruder zu sprechen, und so entstand schließlich der Name „Bull of the Village“. Zuerst war es nur für die Ansage hier in Ungarn, aber ich hatte keine Ahnung, dass das Gimmick auch außerhalb Ungarns funktioniert.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Wenn die Leute Dich zum ersten Mal sehen, fällt auf, dass Du ein großer Kerl bist, aber auch sehr wendig. Daher finde ich, dass es ein ziemlich passender Spitzname ist. Gibt es Vorbilder, von denen Du Dich inspirieren lässt? Robert Dreissker, Jeff Cobb, JONAH, Kevin Owens, das sind Namen, die einem in den Sinn kommen.
Gulyas Jr.: Natürlich. Du hast meine größten Inspirationen erwähnt, aber in Bezug auf meinen Wrestling-Stil war die größte Inspiration eigentlich WALTER. Daher kommt der „Shotgun Dropkick“.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Reden wir über die ungarische Szene. Icarus und Dover haben offensichtlich einen großen Anteil daran, es gibt ein Wrestling-Camp im August, Passion Pro macht Werbung auf Bussen – wie geht es der Wrestling-Szene dort drüben?
Gulyas Jr.: Es wird immer größer, weil unser Dojo wirklich gut läuft. Peter [Tihanyi] und die Arrows [of Hungary] sind hervorragende Trainer. Aber wir haben auch verschiedene Promotionen. Es gibt HCW, die die Geschichte hat und sich auf Handlungsstränge konzentriert, es gibt Passion Pro, das sich mehr auf die In-Ring-Sachen konzentriert. Jede Passion Pro-Show ist anders, man findet Athletik, Humor, knallharte und technische Sachen. Und es gibt eine dritte Liga, XWP, die mehr Hardcore- und Brawling-Sachen enthält. Wir haben drei verschiedene Ligen mit unterschiedlichen Stilen, alle mit relativ guten Zuschauerzahlen.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Du, die Arrows of Hungary, Peter Tihanyi, Orsi, Iva Kolasky. Das sind ein paar Namen, die sich in wXw bereits einen Namen gemacht haben. Wer könnte der nächste Wrestler sein, von dem deutsche Fans überrascht sein könnten?
Gulyas Jr.: Ich würde mich sehr für Tamas Szabo freuen. Er ist wirklich leidenschaftlich am Wrestling interessiert. Der einzige Grund, warum er nicht regelmäßig bei wXw ist, ist, dass er gerade Vater geworden ist. Er konzentriert sich auf seine Familie. Es gibt ein paar tolle junge Leute in unserem Dojo. Wir haben zwei junge, die es schaffen werden, denke ich. Eine ist weiblich, Réka [Szokolai]. Sie wird in absehbarer Zeit erkannt werden, weil sie fantastisch ist. Ich habe auch große Hoffnungen auf Maverick. Ich möchte wirklich sehen, dass sie ihre Zeit bekommen.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Bevor Du zum ersten Mal von wXw gebucht wurdest, kanntest Du die deutsche Wrestling-Szene? Wie wird sie in Ungarn gesehen?
Gulyas Jr.: Als ich Trainee war, wurden die Arrows ziemlich regelmäßig gebucht. Als sie aus Deutschland zurückkamen, wollten sie unser ganzes System auf den Kopf stellen. Sie haben uns immer gesagt, dass wir überall wrestlen können, aber wenn wir erfolgreich werden wollen, müssten wir wXw erreichen. Wir kannten nicht jede Show, wohl aber das „16 Carat Gold“-Turnier. Mein bester Freund Maokai und ich, wir wollten beide am Turnier teilnehmen. Nicht unbedingt im eigentlichen Turnier, sondern am „Carat“-Wochenende. Und das haben wir geschafft. Das nächste Ziel ist natürlich, beim Turnier selbst dabei zu sein.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Vielleicht nächstes Jahr! Ich drücke die Daumen.
Gulyas Jr.: Hoffentlich. Ich weiß, wo ich mich verbessern muss, und daran versuche ich zu arbeiten.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Du hast über das diesjährige „Carat“ gesprochen. Du warst in einer viel prominenteren Rolle als im Jahr zuvor. Du warst am Freitag beim Four Way Dance, Du hattest ein Match im Showcase. Was sind Deine Ziele dieses Jahr, nächstes Jahr, die nächsten Jahre?
Gulyas Jr.: Ich fange mit diesem Jahr an. Ich habe zwei große Ziele. Eins davon ist, bei so vielen wXw-Shows wie möglich zu sein, das zweite, mehr durch Europa zu reisen und in vielen verschiedenen Promotionen aufzutreten. Ich möchte in diesen Ländern einen Namen bekommen. Mein Reisepartner ist im Moment Maverick, wir waren kürzlich bei PWH in den Niederlanden. Das war ziemlich cool, wir hatten ein 6-Man Tag Team-Match mit Zafar [Ameen] gegen Yuval [Goldshmit], Tom Barong Chong und einen lokalen Niederländer, der wirklich großartig war. Und natürlich würde ich es gerne zum „Tag Team Festival“ schaffen. Weitere Ziele für die Zukunft wären die Teilnahme am „16 Carat Gold“-Turnier selbst und der Verbleib in wXw. Für einen europäischen Independent-Wrestler ist es der größte Traum, bei wXw dabei zu sein. Es ist die größte Liga in Europa. Mein Hauptziel ist es, eines Tages von der WWE unter Vertrag genommen zu werden.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Große Ziele! Du bist noch recht jung, wir werden sehen, wo es mit Dir hingeht. Du bist nach der Pandemie richtig durchgestartet und hast 2021 und 2022 jeweils 40 Matches bestritten. Viele davon fanden außerhalb Ungarns statt. Wie war es, Deine ersten Bookings außerhalb Ungarns zu erhalten?
Gulyas Jr.: Icarus hat mir bei der Organisation sehr geholfen. Dafür bin ich ihm wirklich dankbar. Ich bin glücklich, aber es war wirklich so viel, dass ich noch keine Zeit hatte, es wirklich zu verarbeiten. Es war hart und mein Körper hat es definitiv gespürt, aber ich kann es kaum erwarten, wieder überall hinzufahren. Der bedeutendste Unterschied war, dass ich meine Regeneration planen musste. Ich habe gelernt, mich immer bereitzuhalten. Wenn sie mir jetzt eine Woche vor einer Veranstaltung schreiben, schaffe ich es immer, dort zu sein.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Du stehst jetzt seit über vier Jahren im Ring, hast mehr als 100 Matches bestritten. Gibt es einen Kampf, von dem Du sagen würdest, dass er Dir besonders in Erinnerung geblieben ist?
Gulyas Jr.: Ja. Das Four Way Match vom Tag Team Festival. Ich habe das wirklich genossen, ich hatte viel Spaß während des Matches. Wenn ich an Tag Team Matches denke, muss es das Match gegen Robert Dreissker und „Axeman“ [Axel Tischer] wenige Wochen nach „Carat“ im letzten Jahr sein. Das war ziemlich spektakulär.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Du hast in Singles Matches, Multi Man Matches, Tag Team Matches, allem gekämpft. Welche Matchart bevorzugst Du?
Gulyas Jr.: Definitiv Multi-Man Matches. Triple Threat und Four Ways, die mochte ich schon immer. Es gibt viele kreative Möglichkeiten.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Ich habe während des „Carat“-Turniers mit Robert Dreissker gesprochen, und er hatte eine sehr hohe Meinung von Dir. Redet ihr regelmäßig? Er trainiert auch in Ungarn, hat er also einen großen Einfluss auf Dich?
Gulyas Jr.: Robert ist hart zu mir, aber ich kann am meisten von seinen Ratschlägen profitieren. Gelegentlich ist es schwierig und ich sehe aus wie ein kompletter Idiot. Ich denke mir immer, warum ich vorher nicht über das nachgedacht habe, was er sagt. Es gibt viele Dinge, die er mit hilfreichen Absichten sagt, und ich bin ihm wirklich dankbar. Robert ist nicht wie andere, er will es vermeiden, Dir zu sagen, dass alles gut war, wenn es nicht so war. Er hat immer viel zu sagen, was man besser machen kann. Eines meiner größten persönlichen Ziele ist es, dass Robert Dreissker mir sagt, dass alles gut war.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Weißt Du, wann Du wieder im wXw-Ring stehen wirst?
Gulyas Jr.: Noch nicht.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Ich habe nur noch zwei Fragen. Erstens, gegen welchen wXw-Wrestler würdest Du gerne antreten, mit dem Du noch nicht im Ring standest?
Gulyas Jr.: Ahura.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Ich glaube, er macht gerade eine Pause, aber hoffentlich kommt er zurück, damit ihr zwei ein Match haben könnt.
Gulyas Jr.: Ich würde wirklich gerne mit ihm arbeiten. Er ist außergewöhnlich und stiff im Ring, aber ich denke, meine Lariat wird bei ihm ausgezeichnet aussehen.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Letzte Frage: Hast Du etwas, das Du den deutschen Fans sagen möchtest?
Gulyas Jr.: Ja! Ich bin wirklich dankbar für alles, was die Fans für mich getan haben. Ihr akzeptiert mich in wXw, ihr habt das Ding mit den Hörnern gestartet, das ich definitiv behalten werde. Ohne Euch gäbe es die Hörner nicht. Jedes Mal, wenn ich vor Euch deutschen Fans stehe, werde ich immer besser, weil ihr wirklich offen für alles seid. Das gefällt mir sehr an Deutschland. Und danke, dass Ihr Euch dieses Interview angesehen habt, das bedeutet mir sehr viel. Außerdem danke ich Dir für die Einladung, ich bin wirklich dankbar, dass ich hier sein konnte.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Ich hätte keine besseren Worte finden können, als Du es gerade getan hast. Danke, dass Du Dir die Zeit genommen hast. Wir freuen uns darauf, Dich bald wieder in einem wXw-Ring zu sehen.

David (wrestling-infos.de): I am sitting here today with Gulyas Jr., the “Bull of the Village”. Nice that you are here, how are you doing?
Gulyas Jr.: I am perfectly fine. I just finished my work, I am a bit tired. If something takes a longer time to process, I am sorry about it. It was a rough nine hours.
David (wrestling-infos.de): We will take care of that, no problem. I will start with a very standard question: How did you get into wrestling in the first place? What was your first experience?
Gulyas Jr.: I was sitting at home and was playing with the TV’s remote control. Suddenly, I watched a channel where pro wrestling was on. It was the first show I saw, I think it was the “Royal Rumble” 2011. I come from a small town in the countryside. When we moved to Budapest, there were more options. I used to play football, but in Budapest, there are numerous professional clubs which did not accept my request to join. In primary school. One of my classmates asked me to come over to his place to watch the WWE shows. He recorded all the weekly shows. After a while, he mentioned that pro wrestling is a thing in Hungary now. Back at that time, HCW was the only promotion in Hungary. I wanted to watch it, but the shows were not available on demand back then. So, we went to a live show. I was there four hours before the doors opened. That was a stupid idea. I’d still have gotten first row if I’d been there quite a bit later. I became a regular HCW fan. 2014, the same classmate mentioned that there is a HCW Dojo. One month later, my stepdad asked me why I would not go there, and I told him that I was afraid. He pretended to go shopping, but he took me straight to the Dojo and my journey began.
David (wrestling-infos.de): You spoke about it, you come from the countryside. Is that where your nickname “Bull of the Village” comes from? How did you get it, how had the idea?
Gulyas Jr.: The nickname was all on me. The gimmick was not founded by me, though. Before some tapings, they said to me that they wanted to use me and my “brother” as a tag team, the Gulyas Brothers. We were telling him that we barely know each other. On the day of the taping, we still had no gimmick. Makai Renátó wanted us to try the countryman gimmick, so we just tried that. The first match was terrible, I did not know what to do, I was completely lost. It was rough. The second match, I had a bit of time to speak with my brother, and that is where the “Bull of the Village” name comes from. First, it was just for the introduction here in Hungary, but I had no idea the gimmick works outside of Hungary, too.
David (wrestling-infos.de): When people see you for the first time, it stands out that you are a big guy, but very agile, so I think it is quite a fitting nickname. Are there role models you draw inspiration from? Robert Dreissker, Jeff Cobb, JONAH, Kevin Owens, those are names coming to mind.
Gulyas Jr.: Of course. You mentioned my biggest inspirations, but regarding wrestling style, the biggest inspiration was actually WALTER. That is where the shotgun dropkick comes from.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Let us talk about the Hungarian scene. Icarus and Dover obviously take a big part in it, there is a wrestling camp in August, Passion Pro is advertising on buses – how is the wrestling scene over there doing?
Gulyas Jr.: It is getting bigger and bigger because our Dojo is doing really well. Peter [Tihanyi] and the Arrows [of Hungary] are excellent coaches. But we have different promotions as well. There is HCW, which has the history and focuses on storylines, there is Passion Pro which focuses more on the in ring stuff. Every Passion Pro show is different, you can find athleticism, humor, hard hitting and technical stuff. And there is a third promotion, XWP, which has more hardcore and brawling stuff. We have three different promotions with different styles, all with relatively good audiences.
David (wrestling-infos.de): You, the Arrows of Hungary, Peter Tihanyi, Orsi, Iva Kolasky. Those are a few names who already made a name for themselves in wXw. Who might be the next wrestler German fans might be surprised by?
Gulyas Jr.: I would be delighted for Tamas Szabo. He is really passionate about wrestling. The only reason he is not in wXw is that he just became a father. He is focusing on his family. There are a few great young guys in our Dojo. We have two young ones who will make it, I think. One is female, Réka [Szokolai]. She will be recognized really soon because she is fantastic. I have massive hopes for Maverick, too. I really want to see them getting their time.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Before getting booked by wXw for the first time, did you know about the German wrestling scene? How is it seen in Hungary?
Gulyas Jr.: When I was a trainee, the Arrows were getting booked quite regularly. When they came home from Germany, they wanted to overhaul our whole system. They always told us that we can wrestle anywhere, but if we wanted to become successful, we would have to reach wXw. We did not know about every show, but we did know about the “16 Carat Gold” tournament. Me and my best friend Maokai, we both wanted to be in the tournament. Not especially in the actual tournament, but on “Carat” weekend. And it happened. So, the next goal, of course, is to be in the tournament itself.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Maybe next year! I will keep my fingers crossed.
Gulyas Jr.: Hopefully. I know where I have to improve, and I am trying to work on that.
David (wrestling-infos.de): You spoke about this year’s “Carat”. You were in a far more prominent role than the year before. You were in the Four Way Dance on Friday, you had a match in the Showcase. What are your goals this year, next year, the next few years?
Gulyas Jr.: I will start this year. I have two major goals. One of them is to be on as many wXw shows as I can, the second one is to travel more around Europe and compete in those promotions. I want to get a name in those countries. My travel partner right now is Maverick, we were in PWH in the Netherlands recently. That was pretty cool, we had a 6 Men Tag Team Match with Zafar [Ameen] against Yuval [Goldshmit], Tom Barong Chong and a local Dutch guy who was really great. And, of course, I would love to make it to the “Tag Team Festival”. Other goals in the future would be competing in the “16 Carat Gold” tournament itself and staying in wXw. For a European independent wrestler, being in wXw is the biggest dream. It is the biggest scene in Europe. My main goal is to be signed by WWE someday.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Big goals! You are still quite young, we will see where you will end up. You really took off after the pandemic. Furthermore, you fought 40 matches in both 2021 and 2022. Many of them were outside of Hungary. What was it like to get your first bookings outside of Hungary?
Gulyas Jr.: Icarus helped me a lot to manage. I am truly thankful for that. I was happy, but it really was so much that I did not have time to process. It was rough, and my body definitely felt it, but I cannot wait to go again. The most significant difference was that I had to plan to regenerate. I learned to keep myself always ready. Now, when they text me a week before an event, I will always manage to be there.
David (wrestling-infos.de): You have been in the ring for more than four years now, you have competed in more than 100 matches. Is there one match you would say sticks in your mind in particular?
Gulyas Jr.: Yes. The Four Way Match from the Tag Team Festival. I really enjoyed that, I had a lot of fun during that match. If I think about Tag Team Matches, it has to be the Match against Robert Dreissker and “Axeman” [Axel Tischer] a few weeks after last year’s “Carat”. That was pretty spectacular.
David (wrestling-infos.de): You fought in Singles Match, Multi Man Match, Tag Team Matches, everything. What do you prefer?
Gulyas Jr.: Definitely Multi Man matches. Triple Threat and Four Ways, I always liked those. There are plenty of creative options.
David (wrestling-infos.de): I spoke with Robert Dreissker during the “Carat” tournament, and he had a very high opinion of you. Do you guys talk very often? He coaches in Hungary, too, so does he have a big influence on you?
Gulyas Jr.: Robert is hard on me, but I can profit from his advice the most. Occasionally, it is tough and I look like a complete idiot. I always think to myself why I did not think about the stuff he says before. There are many things he says with helpful intentions, and I am truly grateful to him. Robert is not like others, he wants to avoid telling you that everything was good when it was not. He always has a lot to say which can be done better. One of my biggest goals in person is Robert Dreissker informing me that everything was good.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Do you know when you will step foot in a wXw ring again?
Gulyas Jr.: Not yet.
David (wrestling-infos.de): I only have two questions left. First, which wrestler from wXw would you like to compete against that you did not share a ring with yet?
Gulyas Jr.: Ahura.
David (wrestling-infos.de): I think he is on a break right now, but hopefully, he will be back, so you two can have a match.
Gulyas Jr.: I would really like to work with him. He is strange and tough in the ring, but I think my lariat will be huge on him.
David (wrestling-infos.de): Final question: Do you have anything you want to tell German fans?
Gulyas Jr.: Yes! I am truly grateful for the things you have done for me. You are accepting me in wXw, they started this horn thing which I will definitely keep. Without you, the horns would not exist. Every time I am in front of you German fans, I can get better and better because you are really open to anything. I really like that about Germany. And thank you for watching this interview, that means a lot to me. Moreover, thank you for the invitation, I am deeply grateful you have me here today.
