Shaheem Ali: Hey Phil, was geht, Mann?

W-I.de: Mir geht es gut.

Alles, was jemand anderes auch mögen würde.

W-I.de: Alles klar, cool, also lasst uns über eure Inspirationen und Vorbilder sprechen.

LSG: Ja, weiterentwickeln.

LSG: Das waren unsere Rivalen bei Ring of Honor.

W-I.de: Jetzt seid ihr also hier in Deutschland.

LSG: Ich bin in Deutschland geboren.

LSG: Oder Jonathan Gresham.

W-I.de: In Ordnung, vielen Dank, Leute!

SA: Danke.

LSG: Vielen Dank!

During the wXw-World Tag Team League it was possible for us to conduct some exclusive interviews. In the coming weeks, we will present you the talks with Emil Sitoci & Jurn Simmons. But today we continue with the upcoming Ring of Honor Tag Team Coast 2 Coast (Leon St. Giovanni & Shaheem Ali). Among other things we talked about their plans in Germany and how they want to make a name for themselves here. Have fun!

wrestling-infos.de: Hello, I’m Philipp from wrestling-infos.de and I’m here with Coast 2 Coast.

Leon St. Giovanni: Hello Philipp, thank you for having us.

Shaheem Ali: Hey Phil, what’s going on man?

W-I.de: I’m fine. So for all our readers and listeners who don’t know you yet, would you introduce yourselfs maybe and talk a bit about your in-ring style and what you do in your spare time?

LSG: Yeah. I’m LSG also known as The Human Rocket. I’m one half of Coast 2 Coast. I love movies, I’m an artist. I did sports all my life and naturally transitioned into Pro Wrestling.

SA: How are you doing? I’m Shaheem Ali, the one and only chocolate man as I call myself. I love to laugh, I love to have a good time, I’m the Powerhouse and sometimes I dibble dabble a bit of Lucha if I can. When I’m not wrestling, I’m into comic books, video games, movies, everything. Everything someone else would like.

W-I.de: Alright cool, so let’s talk about your inspirations and rolemodels. Did you grow up watching wrestling or how did you come into wrestling?

LSG: I actually discovered a ROH show when I was younger, when I was a teenager. I also used to watch a lot of Impact. I really looked up to Christopher Daniels, AJ Styles and Samoa Joe. That three guys were the cornerstones of Impact Wrestling.  Also they were competing in ROH so I got to see them live often. They definitely inspired me wanting to become a professional wrestler.

SA: Growing up, my mother put me in front of a tv and I got to watch the Saturday Night Main Event for WWF before it was WWE. Ever since then, guys like Ric Flair, Macho Man always caught my eye and from 1988 on I have always been a professional wrestling fan.

W-I.de: I would like to know how you guys formed a tag team. Maybe you can tell us the story behind that?

LSG: Yeah, so we actually met at the Monster Factury but Ali was actually in a different team, with a different guy. I was doing my singles thing and we both kind of decided that it was time to try something new.

SA: Advance!

LSG: Yeah, advance. So we went to the ROH Tryouts. We started training at ROH Dojo with Delirious. During our trainig there, during our travels throughout the country with the crew we decided to become a tag team.

SA: And there you go. We are like family, brotherhood. He comes from a different family and so do I, and we kind of just thought:

LSG: Let’s meet in the middle

SA: Yep, basically. Coast 2 Coast.

W-I.de: Since you already mentioned it, how can we imagine training at the monster factory, is it very different from other wrestling academys? Could you give us some inside on that?

LSG: Actually, I didn’t start at the factory, I did a couple of other places before and I can tell you that the factory is very more regimented. It’s a lot more organized than most schools that you’ll find in the United States. They definitely have a good platform for you to learn the basic stuff and the fundamentals. They are great with conditioning and all the stuff that helps to get you on TV. There are scouts present, e.g. ones from ROH, that invite you to a tryout. They prepare you for that. Ali has a slightly different experience because he was there earlier than me.

SA: I was there when Larry Sharp was part of the Monster Factory. He gave me advice and training. Later was Danny Keate there. And then basically what LSG said.

W-I.de: So you talked about that you perform at Ring of Honor. And since we all know, that Ring of Honor works very close with New Japan, is it a goal for you to work in Japan or maybe get signed by New Japan?

LSG: Absolutely (to SA) I know your answer!

SA: Yap. Definitely.

LSG: We’re talking about it all the time. We are hoping to go with one of these tours with ROH and one day wrestle in Japan on a regular basis. Japan has always been on my radar. I was a big NOAH fan.

SA: And of course we have to go over there and wrestle Roppongi 3K.

LSG: They are our rivals in Ring of Honor. Back when they were the Tempura Boyz. We had many many matches with those two boys but we owe them another one, now that they are Roppongi 3k. We both evolved as teams, we are both way better than we used to be. It’s time that we go to New Japan and wrestle them.

SA: Chase them down.

LSG: Yeah, chase them down.

W-I.de: So we can expect, that you will stay a team in the nearer future but on a long term basis do you plan on staying a team or do you want to advance as single wrestlers?

SA: I think we both have a similar taste in wanting to become tag team champions. And Singles Champions. I don’t see why we still can’t be a team and singles  champions. We’ve seen guys as team where one had a singles run as a, e.g, Television Champion.

LSG: Yeah, we will support each other. If I’m doing singles stuff or he’s doing singles stuff, we are still Coast 2 Coast.

SA: Always.

LSG: Always.

W-I.de: But do you think you would have a good chemistry working against each other as well?

LSG: We actually have wrestled each other. I feel like we had very good matches together. We beat the hell out of each other.

(Both laughing)

SA: I would do it again.

LSG: Yeah I would do it again you son of a…

W-I.de: Let’s talk a bit more about tag team wrestling. You wrestled guys like the Young Bucks or War Machine. Those are very notable tag teams. What did you learn from them and how do they treat younger and up-and-coming guys?

LSG: One of our first tag matches in Ring of Honor was with War Machine. And that was night and day compared to what we are now. It took a year and and a half for us, getting whooped by all these guys, learning from losing. And learning from just getting beat up. By these really good world class tag teams.

SA: We learned how to be a cohesive unit.

LSG: We just threw ourselfes together, we never planned on being a Team. So it took a little while to figure it out. And you see these guys who travel the world and work together and we just try to learn every night.

SA: With the Young Bucks, they are very cool guys. They are very respectful. At the same time they don’t mind giving out advice to younger guys. They basically told us do what you love and always make sure that you stay together. Stay on the same page. Things like that. You can make magic together.
And as far as War Machine, like LSG was saying. The first time they definitely beat on us and prior to beating them and sending them on their way, they beat us pretty good. But we were a better team at that point and we came out on top.

LSG: We sent them to Florida (laughing). I want to give a shoutout to the Machine Guns. Because those are two guys we always would go to after our matches, to get advice. I remember growing up, watching the Motor City Machine Guns and all the different varieties of teams that Alex Shelley was in. I admired them a lot. They were always very willing to help us out.

SA: Besides them, the Briscoes as well. They always set the tone for tag team wrestling. I think that a lot of tag teams nowadays are following their footsteps. That’s what we learned and are still learning.

W-I.de: So now you are here in Germany. Why did you think it was the right time to come over here and why didn’t you just stay at Ring of Honor, since you evolved a lot there and weren’t just squashed anymore.

LSG: I was actually born in Germany. My father was a military. It was always a goal of mine to work for wXw in germany. I felt like now that we are in a better place in Ring of Honor. We built ourselfs up, we got more credibility, I think it was time. We were ready. We feel ready. We have the possibilities to make the job overseas. And try to impress a new crowd.

SA: I defintely wanted to come over here for years. To get to watch different wrestlers. Like Toni Storm.

LSG: Or Jonathan Gresham.

SA: Yeah, Gresham our dude.

LSG: A lot of our colleagues has come through that doors and we wanted to follow their footsteps.

SA: Finally we got the opportunity. We always want to advance and learn and challenge ourselfs. Coming here definitely is a big deal. And definitely is gonna help us when we go back to the states. If we ever wanna go back (laughing).

W-I.de: What do you expect from your stay in Germany and what can we expect from your stay in Germany?

LSG: Well, definitely learning a lot from the tag team wrestling that is going on that weekend, thats for sure. It’s a great opportunity to only focuss on wrestling. Isolate, cocoon ourselfes in the academy and just learn and learn and learn every single day. And get to travel in front of new crowds. So I think we are going to come out of this very confident and way better than we were when we came here.

SA: And have some fun too.

LSG: Of course, have fun. Germany has been great. It’s only day 4 and it has been crazy already.

SA: Absolutely. I really really love the fans over here. They are very appreciative, they are very welcoming and they love wrestling and we love wrestling. Definitely it feels like family every time we go out there and perform in front of our new fanbase. Definitely an awesome feeeling. And we want to just give them everything we have got.

W-I.de: And how did you get in contact with wXw?

LSG: So I actually wrestled for a company called Xcite Wrestling up in New York, in the United States. There I met Alexander James. Well I’ve known him in a while but I’ve recently reconnected with him at Xcite Wrestling and we were talking about Germany and his very succesfull run there. I asked him for some advice and how to get in contact. He put me in contact with the right people and we just made it work, made it happen.

W-I.de: To finish I’d like to ask you if there is some special place in Germany you want to see, you are looking forward to see?

LSG: I don’t know. I really want to do the whole tour. I would really like to see my hometown. I know it’s not a lot there but we have lot of friends and family down in Kassel I think.

SA: Me personally I just want to explore Germany and get to know it the best as possible. So I can go back home and tell my kids about it, tell my family about it, tell my friends and other wrestlers.

LSG: I want to eat all the good food and all the good beer.

SA: You can’t eat beer.

LSG: Well, I’ll drink the beer and eat the food or whatever.

(Laughter)

W-I.de: Alright, thank you very much guys!

SA: Thank you.

LSG: Thank you so much!
