Beim neuesten Exklusiv-Interview von wrestling-infos.de stand uns diesmal niemand anderes als der amtierende Impact World Champion, Steve Maclin, Rede und Antwort – Der auch aus seinen WWE-Zeiten bekannte Steve Cutler, sprach über seine anstehende Titelverteidigung sowie über mögliche kommende Gegner und erhoffte Dream-Matches. Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Ein herzliches Willkommen an alle Wrestling-Fans, zu einem neuen Interview auf Wrestling-Infos.de. Mein Name ist Stephan alias PBC_BayBay und mein heutiger Gast ist kein anderer als der amtierende Impact World Champion, Steve Maclin. Steve, wie geht es dir?
Steve Maclin: Mir geht’s gut. Und wie geht es Dir?
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Mir geht es großartig! Ich kann sagen, dass es eine Ehre für mich ist, denn es ist nicht alltäglich für uns, mit dem Impact World Champion zu sprechen.
Steve Maclin: Ich weiß das zu schätzen. Es kommt nicht jeden Tag vor, dass ich mit Leuten aus Deutschland spreche und hier sitze und Medienarbeit mache, also ist es ein Gewinn für beide Seiten.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Perfekt. Kommen wir also zur ersten Frage und zu deinem nächsten Match bei „Under Siege“. Du wirst deinen Titel gegen PCO verteidigen, einen echten Veteranen des Sports. Wie siehst du PCO als Gegner und wie schätzt du deine Siegchancen ein?
Steve Maclin: Ich schätze meine Chancen ziemlich hoch ein, aber ich sehe PCO auch als einen Gegner, der eine Bedrohung darstellt. Er ist buchstäblich der kanadische Frankenstein. Er ist die perfekte Schöpfung. Er kann natürlich nicht getötet werden. Das hat er schon mehrfach bewiesen, aber ich habe ihn auch schon zweimal besiegt, also vielleicht ist das dritte Mal bei „Under Siege“ das I-Tüpfelchen.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Du hast ihn schon den kanadischen Frankensteiner genannt. Du wirst in Kanada, seinem Heimatland, gegen ihn ringen. Glaubst du, dass er dadurch einen Vorteil hat?
Steve Maclin: Ist es Frankenstein überhaupt wichtig, wo er herkommt oder wo er ringt? Das ist so eine Sache. Wenn er sich dessen bewusst ist, ist er ein sehr anpassungsfähiges menschliches Wesen, aber das bin ich auch. Ich sage „menschliches Wesen“ sehr leichtfertig, weil er eine Mischung aus vielen Dingen ist und er hat offensichtlich gezeigt, dass er unmenschlich ist, aber könnte das ein Vorteil sein? Weißt du, Kanada ist kein großer Fan von mir, da ich der arrogante Amerikaner bin, der ich bin, aber wir werden sehen, wie sich das bei „Under Siege“ entwickelt. Ich habe vor, bei „Under Siege“ immer noch als Impact World Champion herauszugehen.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Gibt es noch andere Matches beim Pay-per-View, auf die du dich freust, abgesehen von dem Match um den Titel des Nummer-Eins-Anwärters?
Steve Maclin: Ich beobachte das Match um den Nummer eins Herausforderer sehr genau. Ich werde es sicher genauso beobachten, wie ich mich auf mein eigenes Match vorbereite, aber natürlich werde ich meine Frau Deonna Purrazzo zum vierten Mal gegen Jordynne Grace antreten sehen und sehen, ob Jordynne sie schlagen kann. Aber der Roster ist einfach ein wahrer Show-Stealer, in jeglicher Hinsicht. Ein weiteres Match wäre Chris Sabin und Trey Miguel um den X-Division Title. Das ist etwas, das ich im Auge behalten würde, denn Option C ist stets vorhanden, man kann also nie wissen.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Wo wir gerade von dem Number One Contender Match sprechen, was denkst du, wer dieses Match gewinnen wird und gegen welchen Gegner würdest du gerne antreten?
Steve Maclin: Ich würde gegen jeden Gegner antreten, der aus diesem Match hervorgeht. Ich würde gerne die Gelegenheit für ein Rematch mit Alex Shelley haben. Eddie [Edwards] ist in diesem Kampf nicht dabei. Das sollte ich wissen. Wir werden sehen. Wenn überhaupt, dann ist Alex Shelley meine Antwort auf diese Frage, denn das ist eines der Matches, die ich gerne noch einmal haben würde, irgendwann in der Zukunft. Und wenn dies eine Gelegenheit für ihn ist, den Impact World Title anzugreifen, während ich ihn bei Under Siege verteidige? Wir werden es herausfinden.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Da Impact in der Vergangenheit eine World Championesse hatte, was hältst du von einer möglichen Titelverteidigung gegen deine Ehefrau, Deonna Purrazzo?
Steve Maclin: Ich bin kein großer Fan von Wrestling zwischen den Geschlechtern. Das ist nicht mein Ding. Ich werde es mir ansehen. Ich schaue es mir an, aber als Wrestler, aber auch als Fan und als Mensch, der ich bin, möchte ich niemals eine andere Frau anfassen. Das ist einfach mein Ding. Es ist also nicht meine Art von Pro Wrestling. Aber wenn es dazu käme, würde ich den Titel gerne an meine Frau weitergeben, denn darauf würde ich nicht zusteuern.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Tolle Antwort. Wenn du dir einen Herausforderer aus einer anderen Promotion aussuchen dürftest, wer wäre das und warum?
Steve Maclin: Nenne mir die Promotion. Irgendeine Promotion?
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Vielleicht AEW?
Steve Maclin: Von AEW würde ich Adam Cole sagen. Adam Cole steht für mich ganz oben, weil das eines dieser Matches ist, das mir nie wirklich gegeben wurde oder die Gelegenheit in NXT nie da war. Wir waren in Sechs-Mann-Tag-Team-Matches, aber wir hatten nie ein Eins-gegen-Eins, und er ist einer dieser Leute, von denen ich denke, dass ich ein gutes Match haben würde und die Fans es lieben würden.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Mein Spitzname bei wrestling-infos.de ist „PBC_BayBay“. Das „BayBay“ kommt von Adam Cole, deshalb würde ich dieses Match gerne sehen. Bei „Rebellion 2023“ konntest du den vakanten Titel in einem Match gegen Kushida gewinnen, aber eigentlich hättest du Josh Alexander herausfordern sollen. Wie weit waren die Pläne für das Match gegen Josh, und wie haben Sie reagiert, als Sie von seiner Verletzung erfuhren?
Steve Maclin: Verletzungen kommen in diesem Geschäft vor, und es sind einfach diese Dinge, die wir nicht kontrollieren können. Aber gleichzeitig habe ich versucht, allen zu sagen, dass es bei „Rebellion“ sowieso immer Kushida und ich sein könnten. Nur weil Josh ihm bei „Multiverse United“ in Kalifornien gegenüberstand. Das ist also so eine Sache. Ich hoffe, dass die Leute dieses Match immer noch wollen, und irgendwann werden Josh und ich gegeneinander antreten, ob es nun um den Impact World Title geht oder nicht. Aber ich habe vor, den World Title so lange wie möglich zu halten, damit ich den am längsten amtierenden Impact World Champion in der Geschichte dieser Company schlagen kann.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Du sagst also, dass wir ein Aufeinandertreffen zwischen dir und Josh erwarten können, wenn er wieder vollständig genesen ist?
Steve Maclin: Ich hoffe es. Das ist der Plan.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Jetzt, wo du die Spitze des Berges erreicht hast, was sind deine Ziele bei Impact?
Steve Maclin: Den Titel so lange wie möglich zu halten und einfach der Beste aller Zeiten zu sein, mein bleibendes Vermächtnis in Impact Wrestling zu hinterlassen und meinen Namen in die Geschichte eingehen zu lassen. Aber für die Leute? Wenn sie an Impact Wrestling denken, sollten sie an den Namen Steve Maclin denken.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Impact veranstaltet die Weeklies und PPVs normalerweise in kleineren Hallen und nimmt oft viel im Voraus auf. Wie würdest du die aktuelle Situation einschätzen und würdest du es gerne sehen, wenn Impact die Weeklies wieder in anderen Hallen veranstalten oder auf lange Sicht die Weeklies wieder live übertragen würde?
Steve Maclin: Das würde nur mehr Geld für die Jungs und Mädels im Hintergrund bedeuten und mehr Zeit auf Achse. Ich genieße den Zeitplan, den wir im Moment mit den Tapings und Pay-per-Views haben, die wir machen. Die kleineren, intimen Veranstaltungsorte sind schön, aber möchte ich in den Arenen sein und die Stadien ausverkaufen? Ja, aber das kommt auf lange Sicht. Das kommt mit der Zeit, und das ist es, was wir versuchen, aufzubauen. Ich denke, dass wir uns als Marke von Impact Wrestling mit DAZN und Impact Plus in die richtige Richtung bewegen. Es gibt so viele verschiedene Möglichkeiten, Impact Wrestling zu sehen, und das ist eines dieser Dinge, die man versucht, zu verbreiten. Aber wenn wir es irgendwann zu einem anderen großen Netzwerk schaffen, wäre das fantastisch.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Apropos erstaunliche Arenen, Impact Wrestling wird im Juli zum ersten Mal Shows in Australien veranstalten. Welche neuen Möglichkeiten siehst du für Impact und dich persönlich?
Steve Maclin: Es ist einfach großartig, dass wir wieder international auftreten werden. Das ist etwas, was wir seit fünf Jahren nicht mehr gemacht haben. Nach Covid-19 können wir diese Grenzen wieder öffnen und die Welt bereisen, vor allem als Impact World Champion. Ich freue mich schon auf unser erstes Mal in Australien. Ich war noch nie in Australien.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Eine Frage, die ich als Deutscher stellen muss. Ich habe Masha Slamovich und Trey Miguel dieses Jahr beim 16 Carat Gold Turnier in Oberhausen, Deutschland für wXw gesehen und sie hatten fantastische Auftritte. Wir haben es geliebt. Siehst du dir europäisches Wrestling an, und wann kann man dich in Deutschland sehen?
Steve Maclin: Das liegt an den Promotern da draußen in Deutschland, die mich unter stevemaclinbookings@gmail.com kontaktieren können. Ich würde gerne durch die Welt reisen. Ich würde gerne überall arbeiten. Das ist es, was ich gerne mache. Ich würde gerne meinen Impact World Title überall verteidigen, und nach Deutschland zu kommen, wäre großartig. Einfach weil es wieder eine Tour ist, die ich von der Liste der Dinge abhaken kann, die ich in diesem Business machen kann, und um die Welt reisen kann. Mein Rekrutierer hat mich noch nie belogen. Von der Militärzeit bis zum Wrestling, das ist einfach eine dieser coolen Sachen. Man kann die Welt bereisen und verschiedene Kulturen kennenlernen. Ich würde gerne rüberkommen.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Okay Leute, ihr habt es hier zuerst gehört. Er ist bereit, nach Deutschland zu kommen. Bucht ihn jetzt, bitte. Du hattest bereits eine Vergangenheit bei WWE. Ist AEW eine Option für dich, um die drei großen Promotions in den USA in deiner Karriere zu vervollständigen?
Steve Maclin: Nein, das würde ich nicht sagen. Wenn sich die Möglichkeit ergeben sollte, dann würde ich sie gerne wahrnehmen. Aber ich konzentriere mich im Moment auf meine Zeit als Impact World Champion und darauf, Impact Wrestling zu dem zu machen, was es sein sollte und was der Roster bringt und wie viel besser es sein könnte. Wie du schon sagtest, ist das Auftreten in Arenen und kleineren, intimeren Veranstaltungsorten etwas, auf das wir aufbauen und unseren Namen bekannt machen wollen. Ich denke, dass das, was wir bei Impact Wrestling machen, im Moment etwas Wunderschönes ist, und es ist etwas, das einfach organisch ist. Pro Wrestling von oben bis unten. Vom Anfang bis zum Ende der Show, alles bedeutet etwas.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: In den vergangenen zwei Jahren hast du mit mehreren Topstars und zukünftigen Legenden gerungen. Was denkst du, wer war für dich der größte Gewinn in der Zusammenarbeit?
Steve Maclin: Zwei von ihnen. Ich würde sagen, Chris Sabin, denn er ist jetzt seit 20 Jahren bei Impact Wrestling und er ist einfach einer dieser Namen, von denen man meiner Meinung nach nicht genug hört, wie gut er ist und was er für das Business getan hat. Und dann stand ich bei „Bound For Glory“ im vergangenen Jahr beim „Call Your Shot Gauntlet“ Auge in Auge mit Bully Ray. Das war einer dieser Momente, in denen ich mir dachte: „Das ist etwas, was ich später einmal machen möchte“. Auch daraus habe ich eine Menge gelernt. Es hat mich von einem Moment, in dem ich dachte, ich würde gewinnen, weggebracht. Nachdem ich das „Call Your Shot Gauntlet“ gewonnen hatte, um mir den Impact World Title zu holen, musste ich zurück ans Konzept gehen und mir überlegen, was ich tun wollte.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Die nächste Frage könnte ein wenig komplizierter sein, aber ich brauche zwei Antworten von dir. Welchen Kampf aus deiner Karriere würdest du gerne ein zweites Mal erleben, weil er so gut war, und welchen würdest du gerne ein zweites Mal erleben, um ihn besser zu machen? Schwierige Frage, ich weiß.
Steve Maclin: Bei Impact Wrestling würde ich gerne zurückgehen und ein weiteres Match mit Alex Shelley bestreiten. Das letzte Mal, als wir gerungen haben, war bei einer TV-Episode in Philadelphia. Das ist einer der Kämpfe, die ich gerne wiederholen würde, auch wenn ich ihn geliebt habe. Ich hätte einfach gerne mehr Zeit, mehr gemeinsame Arbeit, denn es war das erste Mal seit langer Zeit, dass wir zusammen gerungen haben. Und ich würde mich gerne einfach in eine Geschichte verbeißen. Das andere wäre das Finale des Dusty Rhodes Classics gegen Ricochet und Aleister Black. Damals hätten wir, Blake und ich, wohl besser gewonnen, wenn wir gewusst hätten, wohin wir uns entwickeln würden. Das ist ein weiterer Punkt, den ich ändern würde.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Es ist witzig, dass du dieses Match erwähnst, denn dieses Match war dasjenige, das mir in den Sinn kam. Wenn ich mich richtig erinnere, waren Aleister Black und Ricochet auf dem Weg zum Main Roster und ihr wart Feuer und Flamme. Ich würde gerne sehen, wie ihr dieses Match gewinnt. Ich stimme dir zu. Ich denke, es wäre das bessere Ergebnis gewesen.
Steve Maclin: Das gehört der Vergangenheit an. Wir wenden uns der Gegenwart zu und das ist der Impact World Champion und die Vorbereitung auf „Under Siege“.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Nach nur zwei Jahren wurdest du Impact World Champion und kannst an der Seite deiner Frau arbeiten. Der Weg zu Impact schien die perfekte Entscheidung zu sein. Was sind deine Ziele für deine zukünftige Karriere?
Steve Maclin: Ich würde gerne für New Japan und in Japan selbst antreten. Ich würde gerne weiterhin Titel gewinnen oder meinen Titel so lange wie möglich hier bei Impact behalten. Das ist sozusagen mein Ziel. Ich möchte einfach das Leben genießen. Ich genieße das Pro Wrestling im Moment und das ist eine gute Sache, dass ich zur Arbeit gehen kann, mich dabei umbringe und meinen Körper weiter verprügle, aber es gleichzeitig auch liebe. Das können nicht viele Leute von sich behaupten, und es gibt Momente, in denen man sich einfach nur denkt: „Oh, das stinkt und ich mag das nicht.“ Aber ich genieße einfach das Leben, genieße es, mit meiner Frau zu reisen und schließlich eine Familie zu gründen. Das ist auch eines dieser Ziele, aber das hängt auch von meiner Frau ab.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Ich habe ein paar Fragen über den Beginn deiner Karriere. Du hast deine Karriere als Tommy Maclin begonnen, hat der Nachname Maclin eine tiefere Bedeutung?
Steve Maclin: Ich habe „Tommy“ aus dem Film Vier Brüder mit Mark Wahlberg übernommen. Er war Tommy Mercer und ich wollte ursprünglich den Namen „Tommy Mercer“ nehmen. Aber es gab da einen Typen bei den Indies, dessen richtiger Name Tommy Mercer war. Also musste ich mir einen anderen Namen ausdenken. Ich dachte: „Was ist etwas, das gut klingt und trotzdem der TM ist, den ich wollte?“ Ich wollte also einfach einen irischen Namen finden. Ich fand Maclin. Also, Tommy Maclin.
Das war es, was ich mir ausgesucht habe. Als ich dann bei WWE unter Vertrag war, wurde ich Steve Cutler. Mein Name ist auch Steve. Nachdem ich entlassen wurde, habe ich versucht, herauszufinden: „Wie kann ich mich neu vermarkten und meinen Namen dort platzieren? Wie kann ich ein bisschen von dem Alten und dem Neuen nehmen und trotzdem ich selbst bleiben?“ So bin ich eben bei Steve Maclin gelandet.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Die letzte Frage ist eigentlich keine Frage. Bitte sag unseren Zuschauern, warum du der perfekte Impact World Champion bist und warum du PCO am 26. Mai bei „Under Siege“ besiegen wirst.
Steve Maclin: Ich passe mich an und überwinde mich in jeder Situation. Ich bin die perfekte Waffe gegen die perfekte Kreation und den Frankenstein, der dieser kanadische Mann ist. Er kann nicht getötet werden. Am 26. Mai bei „Under Siege“ auf Impact plus könnt ihr zusehen, wie ich PCO im Alleingang auseinandernehme, um meine Impact World Championship zu behalten und genau das wird sie auch bleiben.

Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: A warm welcome to all wrestling fans, to a new interview at Wrestling-Infos.com. My name is Stephan aka PBC_BayBay and my guest today is none other than the reigning Impact World Champion, Steve Maclin. Steve, how are you?
Steve Maclin: I’m doing well. How are you?
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: I’m great! I can say that it’s an honor for me because it’s not everyday for us to talk to the Impact World Champion.
Steve Maclin: I appreciate that. It’s not that every day I get to talk to people from Germany and going to sit here and do media, so it’s a win-win for both sides.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Perfect. So let’s get to the first question and your next match at „Under Siege“. You will defend your title against PCO, a true veteran of the sport. How do you see PCO as an opponent and how do you rate your chances of winning?
Steve Maclin: I read my chances pretty high, but I also look at PCO as an opponent that is a threat. He’s literally the Canadian Frankenstein. He’s the perfect creation. He can’t be killed, obviously. That’s been shown for multiple times, but I also have beaten him twice before, so maybe the third time is going to be the charm at „Under Siege“.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: You already called them the Canadian frankensteiner. You will wrestle him in Canada, his home country. Do you think this gives him an advantage?
Steve Maclin: Does Frankenstein even care where he’s from, or where he’s wrestling? That’s one of those things. If he’s aware of it, he’s a very adaptable human being, but so am I. I say human being very lightly for him because he’s a mixture of a bunch of things and he’s obviously shown that he’s inhuman, but could it be an advantage? You know, Canada is not a big fan of me being the arrogant American that I am, but we’ll see how it comes out at „Under Siege“. I do plan to walk out as the Impact World Champion still at under siege.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Are there any other matches at the pay-per-view you’re looking forward to, except the number one contender match for your title?
Steve Maclin: I have my eyes on that number one contender match very closely. I’m sure to be watching that as much as I’m possibly getting ready for my own match, but obviously seeing my wife Deonna Purrazzo against Jordynne Grace for the 4th time and seeing if Jordynne can possibly beat her. But the roster, hands down, for the card is just, it’s a show stealer anywhere. Another one would be Chris Sabin and Trey Miguel for The X-Division Title. That’s something I would keep my eyes on because option C is always out there, so you never know.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Speaking of the number one contender match, who do you think will win this match and which opponent would you like to face?
Steve Maclin: I’d face any opponent that comes out of that match. I would love to have the opportunity for a rematch with Alex Shelley. Eddie [Edwards] is not in that one. I should know that. We’ll see. If anything, Alex Shelley is my answer to that question because that’s one of those matches I would like to have again, somewhere down the road. And if this is an opportunity for him to go after the Impact World Title as I retain it at „Under Siege“? We’ll find out.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Since impact had a female world champion in the past, what’s your take on possibly defending your title against your spouse, Deonna Purrazzo?
Steve Maclin: I’m not a huge fan of intergender wrestling. That’s not my cup of tea. I will watch it. I will do it, but for me as a wrestler, but then also as a fan and who I am as a human being, I don’t ever want to put my hands on another woman. That’s just my thing. So it’s not my cup of tea of pro wrestling. But if it were to happen, I would just gladly hand the title to my wife because I would not be heading to that.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Great answer. If you were allowed to pick a challenger from another promotion, who would it be and why?
Steve Maclin: Name the promotion. Any promotion?
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Perhaps AEW?
Steve Maclin: From AEW I would say Adam Cole. Adam Cole is up there for me just because that’s one of those matches that was never really given to me or the opportunity wasn’t ever there in NXT. We were in six man tag team matches, but we never had a one-on-one, and he’s one of those people that I think I would have a good match and the fans would love.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: My nickname at wrestling-infos.de is „PBC_BayBay“. The „BayBay“ is from Adam Cole, so I would love to see this match. At „Rebellion 2023“, you were able to win the vacant title in a match against Kushida, but actually, you should have challenged Josh Alexander. How far along were the plans for the match against Josh, and what was your reaction when you found out about his injury?
Steve Maclin: Injuries happen in this business, and it’s just those things we can’t control. But then at the same time, I tried to tell everybody, going into „rebellion“, that it could always been Kushida and I anyway. Just because Josh was facing him at „Multiverse United“ in California. So, it’s one of those things. Where I hope people want that match still, and eventually, at some point Josh and I will lock horns, whether it is for the Impact World Title or not. But I do plan to hold the world title as long as I possibly can so that I can beat the longest reigning Impact World Champion in history in this company.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: So you say that we can expect to see a clash between you and Josh when he’s fully recovered?
Steve Maclin: I hope so. That’s the plan.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Now that you’ve reached the top of the mountain, what are your goals left in Impact?
Steve Maclin: To hold the title as long as possible and just to be the best ever, to leave my lasting legacy in Impact Wrestling and having my name etched in history. But for the people? When they look at Impact Wrestling, they should think of the name Steve Maclin.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Before you, big names like Sting, Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe or AJ Styles have already made it to the history books as Impact World Champion. Do you have a former TNA or Impact Champion who’s kind of a role model for you and your reign as champion?
Steve Maclin: No, I’m my own man. But if I were to look at anybody, It would be Samoa Joe just for how adaptable he was to everyone else. He could work with anybody in any style with the X-Division and then even be a world heavyweight champion. That would probably be the best blueprint to go off, but I am my own man and I do what I can on my own. What I want to do is build my name of Steve Maclin and again, when people think of Impact Wrestling, I want them to think of Steve Maclin.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Impact usually hosts the weeklies & PPVs in smaller halls and often records a lot in advance. How would you rate the current situation and would you like to see Impact going back to hosting weeklies at different venues or in the long run broadcasting the weeklies live again?
Steve Maclin: That would just mean more money for the boys and the girls in the back and more time on the road. I do enjoy the schedule of what we have right now with the tapings and pay per views that we do. The smaller, intimate venues are nice, but do I wish to be in the arenas and selling out stadiums? Yes, but that comes in the long run. That comes in time, and that’s what we’re trying to build. I think we’re moving in the right direction as a brand of Impact Wrestling with being on DAZN and Impact plus. There are so many different possibilities to watch Impact Wrestling and that’s one of those things you’re trying to get out there. But if we are to get to another major network at some point that would be amazing.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Speaking of amazing arenas, Impact Wrestling will be hosting shows in Australia for the first time in July. What new opportunities do you see for Impact and you personally?
Steve Maclin: For us to just be going internationally again is awesome. It’s something we haven’t done in five years. After Covid-19 being able to open up those borders again and travel the world, especially being the Impact World Champion. I’m looking forward to our first time in Australia. I’ve never been to Australia.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: One question I have to ask as a German. I saw Masha Slamovich and Trey Miguel at the 16 carat gold tournament this year in Oberhausen, Germany for wXw and they had fantastic performances. We loved it. Do you watch European wrestling, and when will be able to see you in Germany?
Steve Maclin: That’s up to the promoters out there in Germany to contact me at stevemaclinbookings@gmail.com. I would love to travel the world. I would love to work anywhere and everywhere. That’s what I love to do. I would like to defend my Impact World Title anywhere, and to come over to Germany would be awesome. Just because it’s again, it’s another tour that I’ll check off the bucket list of things I could do in this business and travel in the world. I’ve never been lied to by my recruiter. From being in the military to go to wrestling and it’s just one of those cool things. You get to travel the world and experience different cultures. I would love to come over.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: Okay guys, you heard it here first. He’s ready to come to Germany. Book him now, please. You already had your past in the WWE. Is AEW an option for you to complete the three big promotions in the USA in your career?
Steve Maclin: No, I wouldn’t say that. If that was to come down the road, then I would love the opportunity. But I’m really focused on my time right now as the Impact World Champion and building Impact Wrestling to what it should be and what the roster brings and how much better it could be. Like you said, performing in arenas and smaller, more intimate venues is something we want to build on and get our name out there. I think what we’re doing in Impact Wrestling is just something beautiful right now, and it’s something that’s just organic. Pro Wrestling from top to bottom. The start of the show to the end of the Show, everything means something.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: In the past two years you’ve wrestled several topstars as well as future legends. Who do you think was the most beneficial for yourself to work with?
Steve Maclin: Two of them. I would say Chris Sabin because he’s been with Impact Wrestling for 20 years now, and he’s just one of those names that I don’t think is brought up enough of how good he is and what he’s done for the business. And then standing toe to toe with Bully Ray at “Bound For Glory” this past year in the “Call Your Shot Gauntlet”. That was one of those moments where I look at it and be like: “This is something I’d like to do down the road”. I learned a lot from that as well. It put me from a moment where I thought I was going to be winning. From winning the “Call Your Shot Gauntlet” to go after the Impact World Title, to now going back to the drawing board and figuring out what I was going to do.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: The next question might be a little more complicated, but I need two answers from you. Which match from your career would you like to experience a second time because it was so good, and which one would you like to have a second chance to make it better? Tough question, I know.
Steve Maclin: In Impact Wrestling, I would love to go back and have another match again with Alex Shelley. The last time we wrestled was on a television episode that we did in Philadelphia. That’s one of those ones I’d like to have back, even though I loved it. I would like just more time, more work together because it was the first time we wrestled together in a long time. And I’d love to just sink our teeth into a Story. The other one I would say would be the finals of the dusty classic against Ricochet and Aleister Black. At that time, myself and Blake, I think us winning would have been the better outcome just for where we were going at that time. That’s another one I would change.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: It’s funny that you mentioned this match because this match was the one that came to my mind. If I remember correctly, Aleister Black and Ricochet were heading to the main roster and you guys were on fire. I’d love to see you win that match. I agree with you. I think it would have been the better outcome.
Steve Maclin: It’s in the past. We’re moving to the present and that’s being the Impact World Champion and getting ready for “Under Siege”.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: After only two years, you became Impact World Champion and can work alongside your wife. The path to Impact seemed like the perfect decision. What are your goals for your future career?
Steve Maclin: I would love to compete for New Japan and in Japan itself. I would love to continue to win titles or retain my title as long as possible here in Impact. That’s kind of my goal. Just being able to enjoy life. I’m enjoying Pro Wrestling right now and that’s one good thing is being able to go to work, kill myself while doing it and beat up my body more, but also love it at the same time. Not a lot of people get to say that, and there are moments where you’re just like: “Oh, this stinks and I don’t like this.” But I’m just enjoying life, enjoying being able to travel with my wife and then just eventually start a family. That’s one of those goals too, but that’s also up to my wife.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: I have some questions about the beginning of your career. You’ve started your career as Tommy Maclin, is there a deeper meaning to the surname Maclin?
Steve Maclin: I took “Tommy” from the movie four brothers with Mark Wahlberg. He was Tommy Mercer and I wanted to originally go with the name “Tommy Mercer”. But there was a guy on the Indies and his real name was Tommy Mercer. So, I got to think of a different name. I thought: “What’s something that has a good ring and is still the TM that I wanted?” So, what I wanted to do was just try to find like an Irish name. I found Maclin. So, Tommy Maclin.
That’s kind of what I went to. Then once I got signed with WWE and became Steve Cutler. My name is Steve as well. So, once being let go and trying to figure out: “How do I rebrand myself and put my name there? How do I take a little bit of old and new and still keep it me?” That’s how I just wound up with Steve Maclin.
Stephan „PBC_BayBay“ Leven: The last question is not really a question. Please tell our viewers why you are the perfect Impact World Champion and why you will defeat PCO on May 26th at “Under Siege”.
Steve Maclin: I adapt and overcome in any situation. I am the perfect weapon to put against the perfect creation and the Frankenstein that is that Canadian man. He can’t be killed. At May 26th, at “Under Siege” on Impact plus you get to watch me dismantle single-handedly PCO one-by-one to retain my Impact World Championship and that’s just what it’s going to keep.
