Wir befinden uns wieder auf dem Weg zum größten Wrestling-Festival Europas, dem wXw „16 Carat Gold“-Tournament. Als offizieller Sponsor des Events haben wir von Wrestling-Infos.de wieder die Ehre ein paar WrestlerInnen zu interviewen. Heute geht es mit „Massive“ Jurn Simmons weiter, der sich, wie auch letztes Jahr, Rede und Antwort steht. Leider trieb das Schicksal in der Zwischenzeit ihr Unwesen und setzte den herzlichen Holländer mit einer Blinddarm-Operation außer Gefecht. Seinen Platz im Turnier nimmt der Belgier Mike D. Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Meine Damen und Herren, herzlich willkommen, liebe Wrestling-Fans, zur neuesten Folge des Wrestling-Infos Podcast. Mein Name ist Marko alias „Killcobain“ und heute ist der ehemalige dreimalige wXw Unified World Champion „Massive“ Jurn Simmons bei mir.
Jurn Simmons: Ja, absolut. Vielen Dank, dass ich dabei sein darf.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Also, kommen wir gleich zur Sache. Letztes Jahr sagtest du, du wolltest ein Monster werden, das andere Monster erledigt. Wie ist das für dich gelaufen?
Jurn Simmons: Es läuft ziemlich gut. Offensichtlich habe ich bei Carat den Job nicht zu Ende gebracht. Aber danach habe ich zwei der größten Monster der wXw besiegt und wurde ein drittes Mal wXw Unified World Wrestling Champion, als ich Tristan Archer und Axel „The Axeman“ Tischer besiegte. Danach habe ich den Rest des Jahres damit verbracht, mich mit dem wahrscheinlich größten Monster der wXw, Heisenberg, zu prügeln, und auch ihn habe ich letzten Monat besiegt. Es war vielleicht ab und zu ein etwas steiniger Weg, aber ich denke, ich bin auf dem richtigen Weg.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Wenn wir über deine Fehde mit Heisenberg sprechen, gerade weil du daran gewöhnt bist, mit ernsthaften Gimmicks zu arbeiten, die dich als starken Herausforderer darstellen, aber diese Fehde hatte ungewollt so viele alberne oder meme-würdige Momente. Ich weiß nicht, ob du es gesehen hast. Du hast ihn festgeschnallt und auf seinen Bauch geschlagen. Eine großartige Szene. Könntest du dir vorstellen, mit einem komödiantischen Gimmick weiterzumachen und diese alberne Seite des Wrestlings zu erforschen?
Jurn Simmons: Ich weiß es nicht. Ich glaube, es ist das erste Mal, dass jemand zu mir sagt, dass die Fehde zwischen mir und Heisenberg ein komödiantisches Element hat. Das habe ich vorher noch nicht gehört. Ich habe in unseren Kämpfen und in unserem Programm im Allgemeinen nicht wirklich etwas Komödiantisches gesehen. Insgesamt bin ich jemand, der gerne Spaß hat. Ich mache im wirklichen Leben viel Blödsinn. Eine komödiantische Note wäre nicht unnatürlich. Ich denke, dass ich im Allgemeinen, besonders bei wXw, als einer der ernsthafteren Wettkämpfer dargestellt werde, daher sehe ich nicht, dass es in nächster Zeit in eine komödiantische Richtung gehen wird.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Es scheint, als wäre 2022 ein emotionales Jahr für dich gewesen, da du die wXw Unified World Championship ein drittes Mal gewonnen hast, aber auf der anderen Seite mit Golden Boy Santos einen Weggefährten verloren hast, der die Stiefel an den Nagel gehängt hat.
Jurn Simmons: (lacht) Reisekumpel ist ein großes Wort, aber ich werde Santos vermissen. Es war ohnehin schwer, ihn permanent bei wXw zu haben, weil er zurück nach Portugal gezogen ist. Ich denke, dass der Rücktritt von Santos ein großer Verlust ist. Ich denke, er war jemand, der viel Potenzial hatte, aber letzten Endes ist es seine Entscheidung. Ich kann nichts anderes tun, als sie zu respektieren, verstehst du?
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Stimmt. Wenn man deinen oder Santos‘ Account auf Twitter verfolgt hat, schien es eine kleine Bromance zu sein. Er hat Bilder gepostet, auf denen er am Strand in Portugal spazieren geht. Er schrieb: ‚Oh Mann, letztes Jahr war ich hier mit Jurn Simmons. Ich vermisse ihn so sehr.‘ Und es war einfach großartig.
Jurn Simmons: (lacht) Ich weiß nicht, wie viele Matches Santos gehabt hat, vor allem bei wXw. Offensichtlich hatte er keine sehr lange Karriere. Das klingt despektierlich. So ist es aber nicht gemeint. Er und ich hatten einmal ein sehr kurzes Match bei einer Show in Bielefeld. Ich glaube, das war eines seiner ersten Matches für wXw, und seitdem haben er und ich uns gut verstanden. Wir haben League of Legends zusammen gespielt, das hat Spaß gemacht. Ich kann nicht für Santos sprechen, aber er und ich haben uns viel unterhalten, vor allem über DMs. Außerdem über psychische Probleme und Dinge, mit denen jeder zu kämpfen hat, aber auf seine eigene Art und Weise. Man versucht einfach, sich gegenseitig auf diese Weise zu helfen.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Apropos Kumpel: Dein Freund Levaniel hat Tristan Archer endlich besiegt und ist World Champion geworden. Könnten wir in Anbetracht deiner Geschichte mit deinen Partnern ein Aufeinandertreffen zwischen euch beiden sehen?
Jurn Simmons: Ich würde es hoffen. Meine Absicht war es natürlich, 16 Carat zu gewinnen, und dann würde ich ihn um den Titel herausfordern. Aber jetzt ist das alles wegen Normans jüngster Ankündigung etwas in der Schwebe, also habe ich keine Ahnung, was passieren wird. Das ist es, was ich wollte. Die moderne Version von Diesel und Shawn Michaels zu sein, in dem Sinne, dass wir gute Freunde und bessere Feinde sein würden.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Es ist ziemlich lustig, denn wenn du dich erinnerst, haben wir letztes Jahr Witze darüber gemacht, dass du dich mit dem Titel zurückziehst und dann in einem sehr hohen Alter wieder ins Turnier einsteigst und der Titel auf dem Spiel steht. Gerade erst vor zwei Tagen haben sie angekündigt, dass dies für Levaniel wahrscheinlich Realität werden wird.
Jurn Simmons: Ja, die Idee ist, wenn er das Turnier in Bielefeld gewinnt, dann steht sein Titel für 16 Carat auf dem Spiel. Wenn er es nicht gewinnt, wird ihm der Titel aberkannt. So habe ich das verstanden.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Ja, ich habe ein paar Fragen dazu, aber ich denke, wXw wird in naher Zukunft Klarheit schaffen. Was hältst du von der Erhöhung des Einsatzes für das 16 Carat Gold Turnier?
Jurn Simmons: Ich denke, es ist eine gemischte Sache für mich. Offensichtlich war ich schon bei ein paar Turnieren dabei, also ist es vielleicht eine persönliche Sache, aber ich habe das Main Event am zweiten Abend um die wXw Unified Championship immer sehr genossen. Ich weiß nicht, was sie jetzt tun werden. Ich weiß nicht, was sie am zweiten Tag machen werden, aber ich bin sicher, sie werden sich etwas einfallen lassen. Die Verantwortlichen sind schlauer als ich. Das habe ich schon immer geschätzt. Andererseits bin ich auch dafür, neue Dinge auszuprobieren und zu sehen, wie es funktioniert, also bin ich gespannt, wie es läuft.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Das kann ich nachvollziehen. Ich denke, es wird ohnehin historisch sein. Aber ich werde auch den Titelkampf am Wochenende sehr vermissen. Ich dachte, du könntest mir etwas darüber sagen, aber wie du gerade erwähnt hast, hast du keine weiteren Informationen.
Jurn Simmons: Ich weiß wahrscheinlich noch weniger als du, um ehrlich zu sein. Ich weiß es nicht. Ich habe keine Insider-Informationen. Ich bin nicht diese Person.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Verdammt! Ich glaube, wir hatten noch nie so viele Fly-ins für das Turnier. Große Namen, aufregende Talente, einfach ein tolles Aufgebot. Auf wen freust du dich am meisten an diesem Wochenende oder sogar darauf, mit ihm zu arbeiten?
Jurn Simmons: Die Sache mit mir ist die, dass ich noch nie ein Typ für Traummatches war. Ich bin jederzeit bereit, mit jedem zu arbeiten. Ich denke, das ist der Spaß am Wrestling. Die Vielfalt, die man bekommen kann. Ich würde gerne wieder gegen den „Axeman“ antreten. Ich denke, er und ich hatten fantastische Kämpfe. Außerdem hat er Levaniel bei der letzten Show übel zugerichtet, und dafür möchte ich mich revanchieren. Außerdem gibt es noch ein paar Lucha-Typen. Ich wäre sehr daran interessiert, mich mit ihnen zu messen, denn ich denke, dass ein Aufeinandertreffen der verschiedenen Stile sehr viel Spaß machen würde.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Ich denke, wir können viele tolle Kämpfe erwarten.
Jurn Simmons: Das ist doch das, wofür 16 Carat bekannt ist, oder?
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Ja, allein das Line-Up ist herausragend. Ich könnte jede Minute darüber schwärmen.
Jurn Simmons: Das ist gut.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Nächsten Monat ist es wieder so weit, einfach herrlich. Es ist schön, Freunde zu treffen, eine gute Zeit zu haben und die Liebe zu sehen, die das ganze Wochenende über in die Veranstaltung gesteckt wird, von der Seite der Künstler, aber auch von allen anderen. Vom Getränkestand bis zu den Organisatoren. Es ist einfach schön, und man sieht, wie viel Mühe da hineingesteckt wird. Und deshalb ist es etwas, auf das man sich freuen kann.
Jurn Simmons: Es ist auch etwas Besonderes, das man erleben kann, oder? Ich glaube, das ist etwas, was 16 Carat zu etwas Besonderem macht. Wie du gesagt hast, es ist das ganze Wochenende. Ob es nur das Turnier selbst ist, oder, wie wir gerade besprochen haben, der große Main Event, normalerweise um den Titel, oder „Ambition“ oder der große „wXwNOW and Friends“ Showcase. All das. Die Aftershow-Party, ich denke, wXw tut mehr als das, um sie zu etwas Besonderem zu machen, einfach rund um das Wochenende.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Du hast da gerade „Ambition“ erwähnt. Es gab eine Ankündigung, die dem Turnier wahrscheinlich noch mehr Kredibilität verschafft. Was ist deine Meinung dazu?
Jurn Simmons: Ich bin kein „Ambition“-Typ. Ich bin kein großer Shoot-Wrestler. Ich dachte immer, die ganze Sache mit „Ambition“ wäre, dass es ernsthaft ist. Ich weiß nicht, wie man es noch ernster machen kann. Aber ich werde wahrscheinlich dabei sein und es mir ansehen.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Ich erinnere mich an „Ambition“ vom letzten Jahr, das großartig war. Ich weiß nicht, ob du den Kampf zwischen Fuminori Abe und Shigehiro Irie gesehen hast?
Jurn Simmons: Nein. Ich war bei „Ambition“ nicht vor Ort.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Da war dieser Kopfstoß. Da alle Leute leise waren und nur klatschten und Dinge taten, die man normalerweise bei einer Japan-Show sieht, gab es nicht so viel Lärm und die beiden Jungs machten diesen fiesen Kopfstoß, den man in der ganzen Arena hören konnte. Wirklich verrückt. Wenn man auf so etwas steht, ist es spektakulär.
Jurn Simmons: Wenn du darauf stehst, ist es großartig. Ich bin kein Fan. Vor allem ich als Darsteller. Ich denke immer, dass Dinge, die mit dem Kopf zu tun haben, beängstigend sind, wenn man die Geschichte von Verletzungen und Gehirnerschütterungen bedenkt. Das Gehirn ist, neben dem Herzen, das wichtigste Organ. Ich denke, es ist schwer das anzuschauen, ganz ehrlich.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Wenn man sich das aktuelle wXw-Roster anschaut, hat man das Gefühl, dass es im Vergleich zum letzten Jahr eine neue Landschaft von Talenten gibt. Kannst du das auch für dich selbst in der Umkleidekabine ausmachen?
Jurn Simmons: Viele der Jungs sind ehrlich gesagt dieselben, aber viele von ihnen sind gerade erst in den Blickpunkt geraten. Sie sind ein bisschen mehr in den Vordergrund gerückt, haben von wXw mehr Rampenlicht bekommen. Zum Beispiel Peter Tihanyi und die Frenchadors. Die gab es zwar auch schon, aber ich glaube, es sind einfach mehr Leute, die den Ball in die Hand nehmen und mit ihm laufen. Und das ist gut so.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Wer ist in deinen Augen im Moment der heißeste Hoffnungsträger in der Company?
Jurn Simmons: Ich, würde ich sagen. (lacht) Ich würde sagen, das bin ich, ja.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Der junge, frische, aufstrebende Jurn Simmons.
Jurn Simmons: Ich bin schnell nach oben gekommen, sehr jung. Bis jetzt fühle ich mich immer noch sehr jung, also habe ich noch eine Menge im Tank. Ich kann immer noch einen Haufen Sachen machen.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Ja, natürlich. Da möchte ich nicht widersprechen.
Jurn Simmons: Danke, ich weiß das zu schätzen.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Was ist deine kühnste Vorhersage für wXw im Jahr 2023?
Jurn Simmons: Ich werde nicht lügen, diese Frage hat mich unvorbereitet getroffen.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Gern geschehen.
Jurn Simmons: Das ist eine schwierige Frage. Ich würde sagen, im Jahr 2023 wird sich Maggot gegen Baby Allison wenden.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Das ist eine gute Wahl.
Jurn Simmons: Das ist meine gewagte Vorhersage.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Ich werde einige von ihnen sammeln. Am Ende des Jahres werden wir sehen. Im Laufe der Jahre hast du eine tiefe Loyalität zu wXw entwickelt, aber juckt es dich in den Fingern, frische Luft zu schnuppern oder hast du das Gefühl, dass du eine neue Herausforderung benötigst?
Jurn Simmons: Ich glaube, ich bin definitiv jemand, der davon lebt, herausgefordert zu werden. Wenn ich stagniere, werde ich selbstgefällig. Ich langweile mich leicht, um ehrlich zu sein. In den letzten ein bis zwei Jahren musste ich viel verändern, vor allem in meinem Privatleben. Deshalb bin ich nicht wirklich an viele verschiedene Orte gegangen. Das wird sich dieses Jahr hoffentlich ändern. Ich versuche, an verschiedene Orte zu reisen und zu sehen, was ich erreichen kann. Ich wäre auf jeden Fall bereit, mehr zu tun. Ich liebe wXw und habe definitiv eine Loyalität gegenüber wXw, und ich denke, das gilt in beide Richtungen. Ich glaube, sie haben mir Loyalität gezeigt, als sie es nicht wirklich nötig hatten, also werde ich, solange ich nicht vertraglich gebunden bin, definitiv ein Teil von wXw sein. Das ist 100% sicher. Aber ja, ich würde definitiv auch gerne andere Orte erkunden. Es ist nur das Wrestling – vielleicht komme ich hier ein wenig vom Thema ab, und ich entschuldige mich, wenn das der Fall ist, aber im Wrestling dreht sich offensichtlich um dieses „Was hast du in letzter Zeit gemacht?“. Und bei mir lief es, zumindest in meiner Vorstellung, ziemlich gut. Dann brach ich mir den Knöchel und fing an, mich wieder aufzurappeln. Dann kam die Pandemie, und wie ich schon sagte, hatte ich eine Menge Dinge in meinem Privatleben zu erledigen, also hoffe ich, dass ich den Ball wieder aufnehmen, ins Rollen bringen und sehen kann, wohin ich dieses Jahr komme.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Was die großen Ligen angeht, so erlaubt die WWE unter Triple H jetzt natürlich, dass Wrestler, die unter Vertrag stehen, bei Indie-Shows auftreten. Auf der anderen Seite ist AEW auch sehr an der Indie-Szene interessiert. Heutzutage scheint es für einen Wrestler viel einfacher zu sein, dort reinzukommen, neue Dinge auszuprobieren und das zu tun, was einem Spaß macht oder wofür man sich emotional verpflichtet fühlt.
Jurn Simmons: Ich weiß, was du meinst, und ich stimme dir zu. Ich denke, es gibt viel mehr Möglichkeiten für Künstler, eine Möglichkeit oder eine Plattform zu bekommen, um sich zu präsentieren. Obwohl die von dir genannten Beispiele, AEW und WWE, beide eher eine amerikanische Sache sind. Letztes Jahr wurde NXT UK geschlossen, so dass mehrere europäische Akteure, die bei der WWE unter Vertrag standen, plötzlich arbeitslos waren. Ich bezweifle, dass AEW überhaupt nach Europa kommen wird. Das sind die beiden Großen, und ich schätze, New Japan wäre ein Dritter. Ich denke, für europäische Wrestler ist es in gewisser Weise schwieriger, weil es immer diese Entfernung gibt. Ich denke, in Zentraleuropa, wo wir uns befinden, ist das eine andere Sache, denn wenn man nach Großbritannien geht, gibt es dort viel mehr Möglichkeiten zu arbeiten. Versteh mich nicht falsch, es gibt viele Promotions in Zentraleuropa. Das ist alles sehr relativ. Es hängt davon ab, wo man ist und so weiter. Eine wesentliche Sache ist immer, dass man etwas Glück haben muss.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Zurück nach Großbritannien, du bist auch zu „Progress“ zurückgekehrt, aber am Ende haben wir ein wXw All Star Lineup in einem Qualifier gegeneinander antreten sehen. Wie ist das passiert?
Jurn Simmons: Ich weiß es nicht. Sie haben einfach alle vier von uns gebucht. (lacht) So ist es passiert. Das war super lustig. Ich habe die Show wirklich genossen. Ich denke, es ist eine Schande, ich hätte gerne mehr mit Progress im vergangenen Jahr gemacht. Leider hat sich das nicht ergeben. Maggot und Axeman waren die beiden Hauptakteure, auf die sie gesetzt haben, was in Ordnung ist. Aber ja, die Reaktion auf das Match war ziemlich gut.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Es war wirklich ein tolles Match. Das kann ich dir versichern.
Jurn Simmons: Oh, danke.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Letztes Mal hast du die Twitter-Geschichte mit Eddie Kingston und der „Thirst Trap“ erwähnt. Da wir viele Fragen von den Fans bekommen haben, würdest du bitte die ganze Geschichte für uns aufrollen?
Jurn Simmons: Ich meine, das hängt davon ab, was die Fragen sind. Die ganze Geschichte mit mir und Eddie Kingston? Okay, lass mich dich Folgendes fragen. Weißt du, was eine „Thirst Trap“ ist?
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Ich habe ein paar Vermutungen.
Jurn Simmons: Schieß los! Was denkst du, was es ist?
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Wie kann ich es beschreiben? Jemand, der immer da ist, weil er auf diese Art und Weise durstig ist? Der nach Gelegenheiten sucht, der nach Aufmerksamkeit sucht?
Jurn Simmons: Okay, ich werde es dir erklären. Eine „Thirst Trap“ ist jemand, der Bilder und andere Dinge von sich selbst in den sozialen Medien postet. Die Idee hinter den Bildern ist, dass die Leute ihnen Komplimente machen und ihnen sagen, wie gut sie aussehen oder wie sexy sie sind oder was auch immer. Auch wenn das natürlich nicht die Beschreibung des Bildes ist. Aber das ist eine „Thirst Trap“. Sie tricksen dich aus, damit du Durst nach ihnen bekommst.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Weißt du, wie wir das in Deutschland nennen? Es heißt „famegeil“.
Jurn Simmons: Oh okay, klar. Das kann ich verstehen. Also, was passiert ist, war, dass wir die Carat vor der Pandemie hatten, bei der offensichtlich Eddie Kingston dabei war. Zu der Zeit war es, glaube ich, Istrien, Punch-Drunk Istrien. Er hat über die Carat getwittert, als wäre er dort gewesen und als würde er sich nicht online darüber informieren. Er nannte mich „Thirst Trap“ , weil er das bei den Bildern, die ich gepostet hatte, dachte. Ich habe sie mir also angesehen und dachte: ‚Was soll der Scheiß? Das ist doch lächerlich.‘ Oh, tut mir leid, dass ich geflucht habe.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Kein Problem, wir haben keine PG-Einschränkungen.
Jurn Simmons: Okay, cool. Aber ich habe nur gesagt: ‚Das ist lächerlich‘. Eddie meinte nur: ‚Nein, das ist Geld! Da musst du dich ranhalten!‘ Und ich sagte nur: ‚Nein, das gefällt mir nicht‘. Danach hat Eddie jeden Tag auf Twitter geschrieben, dass ich eine „Thirst Trap“ sei. Ich habe mitgespielt und war einfach nur wütend, was im wirklichen Leben natürlich nicht der Fall war, aber ich habe es nicht ganz verstanden. So ging es los, und jetzt ist es ein Witz, dass ich ihn hasse, weil er mich sozusagen in eine „Thirst Trap“ verwandelt hat. Dass die Leute mich seinetwegen für eine „Thirst Trap“ halten. Das ist die ganze Geschichte.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Ich fand diese ganze Geschichte ziemlich spannend. Du hast ja auch eine Zeit lang damit gespielt, mit der ganzen „Thirst Trap“-Extravaganz.
Jurn Simmons: Ich weiß nicht, warum, aber aus irgendeinem Grund hat es sich durchgesetzt. Vielleicht weil alles, was Eddie Kingston twittert, gut ankommt. Die Leute lieben ihn. Die Leute haben sehr positiv darauf reagiert, also habe ich es einfach gemacht, ich habe ja sonst nichts zu tun. Das ist die ganze Geschichte. Wenn jemand in Zukunft noch Fragen dazu hat, könnt ihr mich einfach über die sozialen Medien kontaktieren und ich werde gerne antworten.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Noch eine Fan-Frage: Nachdem du bei meiner Vorstellung im letzten Jahr einen Heidenspaß hattest, sind die Fans neugierig, wie es sich anhört, wenn Jurn Simmons deutsch spricht.
Jurn Simmons: Oh, nicht gut. (lacht) Was soll ich denn auf Deutsch sagen?
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Kannst du dich vorstellen, oder gibt es einen Lieblingssatz von dir auf Deutsch?
Jurn Simmons: Nein, ich hasse Deutsch. Mein Lieblingssatz ist „Danke schön!“ (Danke schön!), wenn ich ausgebuht werde.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Das ist ziemlich nachvollziehbar.
Jurn Simmons: Oder „Karte, bitte!“ (Debitkarte, bitte!), damit ich mit Karte bezahlen kann. Ich glaube nicht, dass ich eine Vorstellung machen könnte. Die Sache ist die, mein Deutsch war, ich würde sagen, okay, als wXw noch wöchentliche Shows veranstaltete, also war ich wöchentlich in Deutschland. Es war okay, aber seitdem die Pandemie passiert ist, war ich ewig nicht in Deutschland und seitdem sind die Shows natürlich etwas langsamer gelaufen, also war ich nicht so oft in Deutschland, also ist mein Deutsch viel schlechter geworden. Ich verstehe das meiste, aber ich glaube, wenn ich in einem Gespräch bin, klappt es, aber wenn nicht, habe ich einen totalen Blackout und kann mir nichts einfallen lassen. Bis zu einem gewissen Grad, wie ich schon sagte, sind kleine Dinge wie „Hallo“ möglich. „Hallo“, was im Niederländischen dasselbe ist.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Es ist knifflig, zum Beispiel mit den unterschiedlichen Lauten des Buchstabens G.
Jurn Simmons: Als sie mich vor Jahren mit Karsten [Beck] gepaart haben, musste ich irgendwann auch eine Promo machen und über ihn reden. Und natürlich war er der „König der Catcher“. Aber ich wusste damals nicht, dass man das G im Deutschen so ausspricht, also habe ich „Könich der Catcher“ gesagt. Dann erinnere ich mich, dass ein großer Teil der Menge immer wieder dieses Geräusch zu mir machte. Ich dachte mir: ‚Was soll das denn? Das ist der Klang des G. Was meinst du?‘
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Wenn man in Deutschland aufgewachsen ist und „Die Schlümpfe“ gesehen hat, jeder hat Vater Abraham geliebt und wie er gesprochen hat. Dieser Akzent ist niedlich, wie der holländische Akzent mit Aussprachen wie „Könich“.
Jurn Simmons: Das höre ich oft, wenn ich Niederländisch spreche. Ich höre das oft hinter der Bühne, dass Niederländisch wie eine niedliche Version von Deutsch klingt. Für uns Niederländer ist das genauso. Deutsch klingt wie eine lustige Version des Niederländischen.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Es gibt einige Ähnlichkeiten und in einigen Fällen hat das Niederländische auch Wörter, die im Deutschen verwendet werden, aber nur in einem kleinen Teil davon, wegen des Dialekts und solchen Dingen. Es ist also ziemlich interessant, wenn man sich einen niederländischen Satz anschaut und ein Wort gefunden hat, weil man es aus seiner Muttersprache kennt.
Jurn Simmons: Daran kann ich mich erinnern. Das ist auch so eine seltsame Sache. Ich erinnere mich, dass ich, Junior Mac und ich glaube [Christian] Jacobi einmal zusammen waren. Wir waren drüben in England für eine Cross-Promotion-Sache von WXW, CCW, PCW und etwas anderem, an das ich mich nicht mehr erinnern kann. Aber an einem Punkt sprachen sie Deutsch miteinander, und dann mischte ich mich ein. Jacobi sagte etwas, das ich nicht verstand. Dann sagte er es noch einmal, und ich sagte ‚Oh!‘, und dann ging es darum, dass er etwas dachte, also sagte ich ‚Du dachtest‘ dies, dies und dies und dies. Und dann hat er mich wie verblüfft angeschaut, und dann hat er nur gesagt. ‚Willst du mir weismachen, dass du Deutscher bist?‘ Denn er meinte nur, das ist wie „dachtest?“, das ist nichts, was ein Deutscher normalerweise sagt, das ist eine hochklassige deutsche Sache. Ich sagte: „Auf Niederländisch heißt es einfach „dacht“, weißt du. Also habe ich es einfach wörtlich übersetzt, aber sie haben es mir nicht abgekauft.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Ich bewundere das, auch wenn sie es nicht getan haben.
Jurn Simmons: Danke schön!
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Ich schätze, Deutsch ist ziemlich schwierig, weil man die Wörter konjugieren und geschlechtsspezifisch bilden muss, was auf jeden Fall keinen Sinn ergibt.
Jurn Simmons: Der schwierigste Teil der deutschen Sprache ist für mich „der“, „die“ und „das“, weil wir das im Niederländischen nicht haben. Mit dem Französischen ist es das Gleiche. Sie haben „le“ und „la“. Ich verstehe das nicht. Wie man so schön sagt, das eine ist männlich, das andere weiblich, aber beliebige Wörter sind männlich und beliebige Wörter sind weiblich. Es gibt keinen Leitfaden.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Stimmt. Ich weiß nicht, jemand hat sich das einfach ausgedacht und so ist es. Ja, im Spanischen ist es genauso. Dort muss man die Wörter bilden und dabei berücksichtigen, auf wen sie sich beziehen. Zum Beispiel, ob es feminin oder maskulin ist.
Jurn Simmons: Oh, wirklich? Okay, ich werde also nie Spanisch lernen. Das ist es, was ich jetzt gelernt habe. (lacht)
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Es ist furchtbar. Also, wir haben viel über Wrestling gesprochen. Wir haben über die schönen Sprachen der Niederlande und Deutschlands gesprochen. Was ist mit deinen anderen Projekten? Gelegentlich schaue ich mir deine Twitch-Streams an. Ich habe gesehen, dass deine Streaming-Karriere gut läuft. Und ja, auch deine Katze, wir haben gesehen, dass sie dich beim Spielen immer noch trollt.
Jurn Simmons: Ja, es läuft ganz gut. Ja, meine beiden Katzen tauchen aus irgendeinem Grund oft während der Streams auf. Wenn ich anfange zu streamen, wollen sie plötzlich auf meinen Schreibtisch springen, obwohl sie die restliche Zeit nur schlafen. Das ging so weit, dass eine meiner Katzen meinen Stream versehentlich beendete. Ich habe gestreamt, und sie ist einfach auf die Escape-Taste gesprungen. Das hat dann die gesamte Software beendet.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): So nach dem Motto: „Nö, füttere mich einfach!“
Jurn Simmons: Ja. Also musste ich schnell alles wieder hochfahren. Aber ja, ich mache immer noch die Streams. Es läuft gut. Es macht mir immer viel Spaß, sie zu machen. Ich bin im Moment ziemlich nah an der 1.000-Follower-Marke. Wenn ich diese Marke erreicht habe, werde ich einen großen Watchalong über meine Wrestling-Karriere machen und mir mehrere Matches und Promos und solche Sachen ansehen. Ich muss das noch zusammenstellen, aber das ist meine Idee. Das ist ein Ziel, das ich zu erreichen versuche. Das ist ziemlich cool. Das ist die Hauptsache. Ansonsten habe ich nicht wirklich irgendwelche Projekte. Ich habe einen Discord-Server. Wenn du mir auf Twitch folgst und meinen Stream siehst, kannst du in den Chat gehen und die Leute geben dir einen Link zum Discord. Aber ich bin nicht sehr aktiv in den sozialen Medien. Ich sollte aktiver sein, denn das ist ein wichtiger Teil des Wrestling-Geschehens. Ich mag die sozialen Medien einfach nicht. Also bin ich nicht sehr aktiv. Ich bin am aktivsten in meinem Discord und spreche am meisten mit Leuten in meinem Stream, weil man das muss. Ansonsten habe ich eigentlich keine anderen Projekte. Das war’s dann auch schon.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Gibt es irgendwelche Spiele, die du auf deiner „Bucket List“ hast oder die du in Zukunft spielen willst? Wie ich in den letzten Wochen gesehen habe, warst du ziemlich groß in „Pokémon Unite“.
Jurn Simmons: Ich mag Pokémon, aber es ist seltsam, denn für mich ist es eine Art Spiel, das ich mal mehr und mal weniger spiele. Es gibt Zeiten, in denen ich einfach nur dieses Spiel spielen will und Pokémon United sehr oft spiele. Dies ist eine dieser Zeiten, in denen ich es wieder spiele. Ich glaube, gestern habe ich angefangen, „WWE Day of Reckoning“ zu spielen, was ziemlich viel Spaß gemacht hat. Ich habe vor, noch ein paar weitere Wrestling-Spiele zu spielen und all so etwas. Für die Zukunft habe ich auch vor, einen Pokémon Nuzlocke zu machen, mehr von dieser Sorte, weil ich schon ein paar davon gemacht habe. Und die haben immer verdammt viel Spaß gemacht. Außerdem bin ich ein großer RPG-Fan und eine meiner Lieblings-RPG-Serien ist „Fable“, also wollte ich das wieder spielen. Ein großer Teil des Spiels sind Entscheidungen, und man kann gut oder böse sein und all so etwas. Meine Idee war es, dieses Spiel zu spielen, aber dann lasse ich alle, die den Stream sehen, die Entscheidungen treffen, anstatt es selbst zu tun. Das ist es, was ich im Moment in der Pipeline habe.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Mittlerweile gibt es viel mehr Mainstream-kompatible RPGs wie das letzte „God of War“, das ein Meisterwerk ist. Das ist also das, was das Publikum mag, aber ich denke, „Fable“ ist etwas, das man alleine genießen und in das man tief eintauchen kann.
Jurn Simmons: Das ist die Sache. Ich habe das neue „God of War“ ein paar Mal gestreamt, aber ich habe vor, es außerhalb des Streams zu beenden, nur für mich selbst, weil ich merke, dass es mir beim Streamen schwerer fällt, auf die Charaktere und die Geschichte zu achten, was beim ersten Durchspielen natürlich wichtig ist. Die „Fable“-Spiele sind im Allgemeinen sowieso eher locker, sie sind nicht so ernst, man muss nicht so sehr aufpassen. Und ich kenne schon alle Geschichten. Weißt du, ich weiß schon alles, was passiert, und ich mag diese Spiele einfach. Also spiele ich sie gerne. Im Allgemeinen werde ich nichts streamen, was ich nicht selbst spielen möchte. Denn dann bekommst du nur einen Stream, in dem ich die ganze Zeit nur giftig und sauer bin. Ich bezweifle, dass das viel Spaß macht.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Gerade in „God of War“, wenn man mit der Story fertig ist und auf den Schlitten geht, erwähnt Mimir immer irgendwelche Easter Eggs, die sich auf die früheren Teile der Serie beziehen. Einfach großartig.
Jurn Simmons: Ja, da stimme ich absolut zu 100% zu.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Ich kann mir vorstellen, dass du eine wunderbare Zeit hast, das Spiel zu beenden.
Jurn Simmons: Bis jetzt hat es super viel Spaß gemacht. Ich glaube, ich bin noch nicht so weit drin. Leider habe ich nicht so viel Freizeit, wie ich sie gerne hätte. Aber die Zeit, die ich mit dem Spiel verbracht habe, hat bisher super viel Spaß gemacht.

Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Ladies and gentlemen, welcome my dear wrestling fans to the latest episode of the Wrestling Info’s Podcast. My name is Marko aka „Killcobain“ and today I am joined by former three time wXw Unified World Champion „Massive“ Jurn Simmons.
Jurn Simmons: Yeah, absolutely. Thank you very much for having me.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): So, we will cut right to the chase. Last year, you said you wanted to become a monster that slays other monsters. How has that been going for you?
Jurn Simmons: It is going pretty well. Obviously, at Carat, I did not get the job done. But afterward, I beat two of the biggest monsters there are in wXw and became wXw Unified World Wrestling champion for a third time when I beat Tristan Archer and Axel „The Axeman“ Tischer, and then pretty much after that I spent the rest of the year feuding with probably the biggest monster wXw has in Heisenberg, and I finally vanquished him as well, just Last month. It may have been a bit of a rocky road now and then, but I think I am on track.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Talking about your feud with Heisenberg just because you are used to working serious gimmicks, which portray you as a strong contender, but this feud had, unintentionally, so many goofy or meme worthy moments. I do not know if you have seen it. You had him strapped up and punched on his belly. A great scene. So, could you see yourself having a run with a comedic gimmick, exploring all this goofy side of wrestling?
Jurn Simmons: I do not know. I think that this is the first time somebody has brought up to me that there is a comedic element to the feud between me and Heisenberg. I have not heard that one before. I did not really see anything comedic in our matches and our program in general. Overall, I am someone who likes to have fun. I goof around a lot in real life. A comedic touch would not be unnatural. I think, in general, especially in wXw, I am portrayed as one of the more serious competitors, so I do not see it going into a comedic direction really anytime soon.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): It seemed like 2022 has been an emotional year for you, winning the wXw Unified World Championship a third time, but on the other side, you have lost a travel buddy in Golden Boy Santos who hung up the boots.
Jurn Simmons: (laughs) Travel buddy is a big word, but I will miss Santos. Ut was hard to have him around at wXw all the time now anyway because he moved back to Portugal. I think Santos retiring is a great loss. I think he was someone who had a lot of potential, but at the end of the day, it is his decision. I cannot do anything but respect it, you know?
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): True. If one has followed your or Santos‘ Twitter, it seemed like a little bromance. H was posting pictures of walking on the beach in Portugal. He was, ‚Oh man, last year, I was here with Jurn Simmons. I miss him so much.‘ And it was just great.
Jurn Simmons: (laughs) I don’t know how many matches Santos has had, especially in wXw. Obviously, he did not have a very long career. That sounds disrespectful. I do not intend it to be that way. He and I had a super short match at one point at a Bielefeld Show. I think that was one of his first matches for wXw and since then, he and I have gotten along great. We have played League of Legends together, that has been fun. I cannot speak for Santos, but he and I have talked a bunch, especially through DMs. Moreover, about mental health stuff and stuff that everybody deals with, but in their own way. You just try to help each other out that way.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Talking about buddies, your friend Levaniel has finally overcome Tristan Archer to become a world champion. Considering your history with partners, could we see a clash between you two down the line?
Jurn Simmons: I would hope so. My intention was obviously to win 16 Carat, and then I would challenge him for the title. But now, all of that is somewhat up in the air because of Norman’s latest announcement, so I have no idea what is going to happen. That is what I wanted. Being modern days Diesel and Shawn Michaels in the sense that we would be good friends and better enemies.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): It is quite funny because if you remember last year we were joking about you retiring with the title and then going at a such a high age back into the tournament with the title on the line and now, just two days ago, I guess, they announced it will become reality for Levaniel.
Jurn Simmons: Yeah, the idea is if he wins the tournament in Bielefeld, then his title is on the line for 16 Carat. If he does not win it, the title gets vacated. That is how I understood it.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Yeah. I have some questions about it, but I guess wXw will clear up the air in the near future. What is your take on doubling the stakes for the 16 Carat Gold tournament?
Jurn Simmons: I think it is a mixed bag for me. Obviously, I have been in a couple of them, so maybe it is a personal thing, but I have always really enjoyed the night two main event for the wXw Unified Championship. I do not know what they are going to do now. I don’t know what they are going to do on the second day, but I am sure they will come up with something. You know, the people in charge are smarter than I. I have always been a fan of that. On the other hand, I am also all for trying new stuff and seeing how that works out, so I am interested to see how it goes.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): I can relate. I think it will be historical anyway. But I will also very much miss the championship match on the weekend. I thought you could tell me something about it, but as you just said, you do not have any further information.
Jurn Simmons: I probably do know less than you do, to be honest. I do not know. I do not have any insider scoops. I am not that person.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Damn. I think we have never had this many fly-ins for the tournament. The big names, exciting talent, just a great line up. Who are you most excited to see this weekend or even to work with?
Jurn Simmons: The thing about me is I have never been much of a dream match guy. I Am up for working anybody at any time. I think that is the fun of wrestling. The variety that you can get. I would like to square off with the „Axeman“ again. I think he and I have had fantastic matches. He also did Levaniel dirty at the last show, so I want to get back at him for that. Besides that, there are a couple of Lucha guys. I would be super interested in mixing it up with them because I think that Clash of Styles would be super fun.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): I guess we can expect plenty of great matches.
Jurn Simmons: It is kind of what 16 Carat is known for, right?
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Yeah, just the line-up is outstanding. I could gush every minute about it.
Jurn Simmons: That is good.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Next month it is going to happen, it is just great. Just great meeting friends, having a good time, seeing the love that is put into the whole event the whole weekend from the performers‘ side, but also everybody from the drinking booth to the organizers. It is just wholesome, and you can see the effort put in it. And that is why it is something to look forward to.
Jurn Simmons: It is also something special to experience, right? I do think that it is something that makes 16 Carat special. As you said, it is the entire weekend. You know everything altogether. whether it is just the tournament itself, or, as we just talked about, the big main event, usually for the title, or „Ambition“ or the big „wXwNOW and Friends“ showcase. All Of that. The aftershow party, I do think wXw does go above and beyond to make it special, just all around the weekend.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): You have just mentioned „Ambition“ there. There was an announcement to get it more serious. What is your take on that?
Jurn Simmons: I am not an „Ambition“ guy. I am not a big shoot wrestler. I always thought the whole deal about „Ambition“ was that it was serious, so. I don’t know how you are going to make it more serious. But I will probably be there to watch it.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): I remember last year’s „Ambition“, which was great. I do not know if you have seen the match between Fuminori Abe and Shigehiro Irie?
Jurn Simmons: No. I was not there for „Ambition“.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): There was this headbutt. Due to all the people being quiet and just clapping and doing things you would usually see at a Japan show, there was not that much of noise and the two guys did this nasty headbutt, which you could hear all around the arena. Really crazy. If you are into this stuff, it is spectacular.
Jurn Simmons: If you are into it, it is great. I am not a fan. Especially I as a performer. I always think stuff with the head is scary, given the history of injuries and concussions. The brain is, next to your heart, your most important organ. I think it is hard to watch, honestly.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Taking a look at the current wXw roster, it feels like, compared to last year, there is a new landscape of talent. Could you also make this out for yourself in the locker room?
Jurn Simmons: A lot of the guys are honestly the same, but a lot of them have just come up. They have been coming into prominence a bit more, have been given more of a spotlight by wXw. For example, Peter Tihanyi and the Frenchadors. They were around, you know, but I think it is just more people have been taking the ball and running with it. Which is good.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Who is the company’s hottest prospect right now in your eyes?
Jurn Simmons: Me, I would say. (laughs) I would say that is me, yeah.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Young, fresh, up-and-coming Jurn Simmons.
Jurn Simmons: I rose to the top quickly, very young. Until now, I still feel like I am very young, so I still got a lot in the tank. I can still do a bunch of stuff.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Of course. I won’t disagree.
Jurn Simmons: Thank you, I appreciate it.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): What is your boldest prediction for wXw in 2023?
Jurn Simmons: I am not gonna lie, that question caught me off guard.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): You’re welcome.
Jurn Simmons: That is a tough one. I would say in 2023, Maggot is going to turn on Baby Allison.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): That is a good one.
Jurn Simmons: That is my bold prediction.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): I am going to collect some of them. At the end of the year, we will see. Over the years you have developed a deep loyalty for wXw, but do you have an itch for a change of air or do you feel like you need another challenge?
Jurn Simmons: I definitely think I am somebody who feeds from being challenged. If I stagnate, I get complacent. I get bored easily, to be honest. In the last one or two years, I had to change a lot, especially in my own personal life. That is why I have not really been going to multiple different places. Hopefully, that will change this year. I am trying to get to different places and see what I can make happen. I would definitely be up to doing more. I love wXw. I definitely have a loyalty towards wXw, and I think it is both ways. I believe they have shown me loyalty when they did not really need to, so as long as I am not contracted with anything, I will definitely be a part of wXw. That is 100% certain. But yeah, I definitely would like to explore other places as well. It is just wrestling – maybe I will go on a bit of a tangent here, and I apologize if that is the case, but wrestling, obviously, is a lot of „what have you done lately?“ kind of thing. And for me, at least in my mind, I was going pretty good. Then I broke my ankle and was starting to pick it back up. Then the pandemic happened and then, like I said, I have had a lot of stuff in my personal life I had to adjust too, so hopefully I can pick up the ball again, get it rolling and see where I can go this year.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Regarding the major leagues, WWE under Triple H now obviously allows contracted wrestlers to work indie shows. On the other hand, AEW is also very keen on the indie scene. Nowadays, it seems like it is much easier for a performer to come in there, try new things and do what makes you happy or where you feel emotionally committed to.
Jurn Simmons: I know what you mean, and I do agree. I think there are a lot more opportunities for performers to get an avenue, to get a platform to showcase themselves. Although, with the examples you mentioned, AEW and WWE, they are both more of an American thing. Last year, NXT UK closed down, so several European players who were contracted to WWE were all of a sudden out of a job. I doubt that AEW is coming to Europe at all. Those are the two big ones, and I guess New Japan would be a third. I think for European wrestlers it is in a sense more difficult because there is always that distance. I think in Central Europe, where we are at, that is another thing because if one goes to the UK, there are a lot more places to work. Do not get me wrong, there are plenty of promotions in Central Europe. It is all very relative. It is dependent on where you are and that kind of thing. A considerable thing is always that you have to have some luck.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Going back to the UK, you have also returned to „Progress“, but ultimately we ended up seeing a wXw All Star lineup compete against each other in a qualifier. So, how did that happen?
Jurn Simmons: I don’t know. They just booked all four of us. (laughs) That is how it happened. That was super fun. I really enjoyed that show. I think it is a shame, I would have loved to have done more with Progress the past year. Unfortunately, it did not happen. Maggot and Axeman were the main two guys they went for, which is fine. But yeah, the reaction to the match has been pretty good.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): It truly was a great match. I can assure you that.
Jurn Simmons: Oh, thank you.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Last time, you have mentioned the Eddie Kingston Twitter story with the thirst trap. Since we have got many questions from the fans, would you mind rolling up the whole story for us?
Jurn Simmons: I mean, it depends on what the questions are. The whole story with me and Eddie Kingston? Okay, let me ask you this. Do you know what a thirst trap is?
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): I have some guesses.
Jurn Simmons: Shoot! What do you think it is?
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): How can I describe it? Someone who is always there because he is thirsty in that way? Getting into opportunities, looking for attention?
Jurn Simmons: Okay, so I will explain it to you. A thirst trap is somebody that posts pictures and stuff of themselves online on social media. The idea behind the pictures is for people to complement them and tell them like how good-looking or sexy or whatever they are. Even though obviously that is not the description of the picture. But that is a thirst trap. They trick you into being thirsty for them like that.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Do you know how we call this in Germany? It’s „famegeil“.
Jurn Simmons: Oh okay, sure. I can see that. So, what happened was we had the Carat before the pandemic, which obviously Eddie Kingston was at. At the time, I think it was Istria, Punch-Drunk Istria. He was tweeting about Carat like he was not there and as if he were catching up on it online. He called me a thirst trap because that is what he thought with the pictures I posted. So, I looked at them, and I was like, ‚What the fuck? That’s ridiculous.‘ Oh, sorry for swearing.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): No problem, we have no PG restrictions.
Jurn Simmons: Okay, cool. But I was just like, ‚That’s ridiculous‘. Eddie was just like, ‚No, that’s money! You have to hone in on that!‘ And I was just like, ‚No, I don’t like that‘. Subsequently, every day, Eddie would put on Twitter that I was a thirst trap. I played along with it and just got furious, which was obviously not the case in real life, but I did not entirely get it. That is how it took off, and now it is a joke that I hate him because he turned me into a thirst trap, so to speak. That people consider me to be a thirst trap because of him. That is the whole story.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): I thought this whole stuff was pretty astonishing. For some time, you also ran with it, with the whole thirst trap extravaganza.
Jurn Simmons: I do not know why, but for some reason, it took off. Maybe because everything Eddie Kingston tweets takes off. People love him. People reacted to that very positively, so I just ran with it, I got nothing else to do. That is the whole story. I hope if anybody in the future has any more questions about it, you can just contact me on social media and I will gladly answer.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): You can take that for granted. Another fan question: After you had a hell of a time during my introduction last year, fans are curious what it sounds like when Jurn Simmons talks German.
Jurn Simmons: Oh, not good. (laughs) What would you want me to say in German?
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Can you do an introduction, or is there a favorite sentence you might have in German?
Jurn Simmons: No, I hate German. My favorite sentence is „Danke schön!“ (Thank you!) when I get booed.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): That’s pretty relatable.
Jurn Simmons: Or „Karte, bitte!“ (Debit card, please!), so I can pay by card. I do not think I could do an introduction. The thing is, my German was, I would say, okay when wXw was still running weekly shows, so I was in Germany weekly. It was okay, but since then, the pandemic happened, I was not in Germany for forever and since then, the shows have been a little slower obviously, so I was not in Germany as often, so my German has gotten way worse. I understand most of it, but, and I think, if I am in a conversation, it clicks, but if I am not, I draw a total blank and cannot come up with anything. To a certain degree, like I said, small things like „Hallo“ (Hello) are possible. „Hallo“ which is the same thing in Dutch.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): It is tricky, with the different sounding of the letter G for example.
Jurn Simmons: When they paired me with Karsten [Beck] years ago, at one point I had to do a promo as well and had to talk about him. And obviously, he was the „König der Catcher“. But I did not know you pronounced the G like that in German at the time, so I said, „Könich der Catcher“. Then I remember a big part of the section of the crowd just kept making that noise to me. I was like, ‚What’s the deal? That is the sound of the G. What do you mean?‘
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): When you grew up in Germany watching „The Smurfs“, everybody loved Father Abraham and how he talked. ‚This accent is cute‘, like this Dutch accent with pronunciations like „Könich“.
Jurn Simmons: I hear that a lot that when I speak Dutch. I hear that a lot like backstage that Dutch sounds like a cute version of German. It is the same for us Dutch people. German sounds like a funny version of Dutch.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): There are several similarities and also, in some cases, Dutch has words which are used in German, but only in a small parts of it because of dialect and things like this. So, it is pretty interesting when you look at the Dutch sentence, and you have found a word because you know it from your local tongue.
Jurn Simmons: I remember that. It is such a weird thing as well. I remember at one point, it was me, Junior Mac, and I think [Christian] Jacobi. We were over in England for a cross promotion thing of WXW, CCW, PCW and something else I do not remember. But at one point, they were speaking German to each other and then, I chimed in. Jacobi said something I did not understand. Then he said it again, and I went ‚Oh!‘ and then it was something about that he thought something, so I said ‚Du dachtest‘ this, this and this and this. And then he looked at me like dumbfounded, and then he was just like. ‚Are you trying to kayfabe you are German?‘ Because he was just like that’s like, „dachtest?“, this is not a normal thing a German says, it is a high class German thing. I was like, in Dutch, it’s just „dacht“, you know.‘ So, I was just like literally translating it, but they didn’t buy it.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): I admire that, so even if they did not.
Jurn Simmons: Thank you.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): I guess German is pretty tough because of how you have to conjugate and gender the words, which make no sense by any means.
Jurn Simmons: The toughest part of the German language for me is „der“, „die“ and „das“ because that is something we do not have in Dutch. It is the same thing with French. You have „le“ and „la“. I do not get it. As they say, one is masculine, the other is feminine, but random words are masculine and random words are feminine. There is no guideline.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): True. I don’t know, someone just made it up and there it is. Yeah, it is the same in Spanish. There you have to form the words, considering to whom they relate. Like if it is feminine or masculine.
Jurn Simmons: Oh, really? Okay, so I am never learning Spanish. That is what I learned now. (laughs)
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): It is horrible. So, we have talked a lot about wrestling. We have talked about the beautiful languages of the Netherlands and Germany. What about your other projects? Occasionally, I hop into your twitch streams. I have seen your streaming career is doing well. And yeah, your cat as well, we have seen she is still trolling you during gaming.
Jurn Simmons: Yeah, it is going alright. Yeah, both of my cats show up a bunch during streams for some reason. When I start streaming, all of a sudden, they want to jump onto my desk, even though the rest of the time they just sleep. It got to the point where one of my cats ended my stream accidentally. I was streaming, and she just jumped on the escape button. It just closed down the entire software.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Like, „Nope, just feed me!“
Jurn Simmons: Yeah. So, I had to quickly start it back up. But yeah, I am still doing the streams. It’s going well. I always have a blast doing them. I am pretty close to 1,000 followers right about now. When I hit that, I intend to do like a big watchalong about my wrestling career and watch several matches and promos and that kind of stuff. I have to put it together, but that is my idea. That is a goal I am trying to hit. That is pretty cool. That is the main thing. Besides that, I do not really have any projects. I have a discord server, if you follow me on Twitch and watch my stream, you can go in the chat and people will give you a link to the discord. But I am not very active on social media. I should be more active because it is a big part of the hustle of wrestling. I just dislike social media. So, I am not on it a lot. I tend to be the most active on my discord and talk to people the most on my stream because you have to. Besides that, I do not really have any other projects. So, that is just about it.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Are there any games you have on your bucket list or plan to play in the future? Like I have seen in the last few weeks, you were pretty big in „Pokémon Unite“.
Jurn Simmons: I like Pokémon, it is weird because for me, it is a very on again, off again kind of game. I have periods of time when I just want to play this game and play Pokémon United a bunch. This is one of those times when I am playing it again. I think yesterday, I started playing „WWE Day of Reckoning“, which has been pretty fun. I plan to play some more wrestling games and all that kind of stuff as well. In the future, I am also planning on doing a Pokémon Nuzlocke, more of that sort of things because, I have done a couple of those. And they have always been a shitload of fun. Besides that, I am a big RPG guy and one of my favorite RPG series is „Fable“, so I wanted to play that again. A big part of the game are choices, and you get to be good or evil and all that kind of stuff. My idea was to play that game, but then I have everybody who watches the stream make the choices instead of me. That is what I have got in the pipeline right now.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): By now you have a lot more mainstream compatible RPGs like the last „God of War“, which is a masterpiece. So, this is what the audience likes, but I guess „Fable“ is something to enjoy on your own, to deeply dive in.
Jurn Simmons: That is the thing. I streamed the new „God of War“ a couple of times, but I intend to finish it off stream, just for myself, because I notice that when I stream, it is harder for me to pay attention to the characters and the story, obviously on the first playthrough, it is essential. The „Fable“ games in general are more lighthearted anyway, like they are not as serious, you do not need to pay attention that much. And I know all the stories already. You know, I already know everything that is going on, and I just like those games. So, I like playing them. In general, I will not stream anything that I dislike playing myself. Because then you are just going to get a stream of me just being toxic and pissed the entire time. I doubt that is much fun.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): Especially in „God of War“, when you are finished the story, and you’re going on your snow slide, Mimir always talks some lore and Easter eggs, relating to the earlier entries of the series. Just great.
Jurn Simmons: Yeah, absolutely 100% agree.
Marko (Wrestling-Infos.de): I can imagine you have a wonderful time completing the game.
Jurn Simmons: It has been super fun so far. I do not think I am that far into it yet. Unfortunately, I do not have as much spare time as I would like to have. But the time I have spent with the game has been super fun so far.
